COLORADO SPRINGS — NASA announced April 19 the creation of a new organization devoted to advancing technologies for in-space servicing, assembly and manufacturing (ISAM).

NASA said the Consortium for Space Mobility and ISAM Capabilities , COSMIC, will start work this fall to coordinate work among companies and organizations regarding technologies related to servicing and repairing spacecraft in space.

A vital subsystem for NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope was recently delivered to Ball Aerospace in Boulder, Colorado, and installed in the spacecraft’s Wide Field Instrument (WFI).

“Without this calibration tool, we wouldn’t be able to gather accurate enough measurements to achieve the next-level science Roman is designed to do,” said Joshua Schlieder, a research astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

That’s at least the intent for Manik Sakya, the owner of the Nepal and Everest Nepal restaurants in Glenwood Springs.

Google's Threat Analysis Group (TAG), which is monitoring the activities of the actor under the name FROZENLAKE , said the attacks continue the "group's 2022 focus on targeting webmail users in Eastern Europe."

The state-sponsored cyber actor, also tracked as APT28, Fancy Bear, Forest Blizzard, Iron Twilight, Sednit, and Sofacy, is both highly active and proficient. It has been active since at least 2009, targeting media, governments, and military entities for espionage.

AMSTERDAM, April 19 (Reuters) - China is seeking to acquire equipment and knowledge in the Dutch space sector, sometimes in circumvention of export restrictions, the Netherlands' military intelligence agency said on Wednesday.

The agency, known by its Dutch acronym MIVD, said in its 2022 annual report that its analysis "shows the Chinese satellite launch capacity will increase further in the coming years to 100 launches per year".

NASA launches Space Technology Research Institute for metal Additive Manufacturing

NASA has announced that it will create two new institutes to develop technology in critical areas of engineering and climate research.

One of the research institutes (the Quantum Pathways Institute) will focus on quantum sensing technology in support of climate research.

Western Digital Falls on Report That Hackers Are Seeking Ransom

(Bloomberg) -- Western Digital Corp. shares fell as much as 4.5% following a report that hackers are trying to extort the company after stealing about 10 terabytes of data, including customer information.

The stock dropped as low as $36.30 after TechCrunch reported that the hackers were seeking a ransom of at least "eight figures" — $10 million and up — in exchange for not publishing the data.
