“The darkest planet ever discovered orbiting a star, this alien world is less reflective than coal.

“Some scientists think an eerie deep red glow would emanate from its burning atmosphere. The air of this planet is as hot as lava.”
“One side of this tidally-locked planet is in perpetual darkness, the other in blinding heat.”
PSR B1257+12 c, also named Poltergeist, is another extrasolar planet approximately 2,300 light-years away in the constellation of Virgo.

Here's Why Scientists Are So Excited About NASA's New Planet-Hunting Space Telescope
With NASA's new exoplanet-hunter space telescope TESS , the all-sky search is on for possibly habitable planets close to our solar system. TESS - orbiting Earth every 13.7 days - and ground-based telescopes are poised to find hundreds of planets over the next few years.
Given TESS's unique ability to simultaneously search tens of thousands of stars for planets, the mission is expected to yield over 10,000 new worlds .

‘The Mandalorian’ Recap: “The Child” Brings ‘Lone Wolf and Cub’ to the ‘Star Wars’ Universe

We’re only two episodes into the new Lucasfilm series The Mandalorian (currently available only on Disney+ ) and there is so much to process. Among the many questions we still have from the most recent episode, “The Child,” is a very simple one: what planet does this episode take place on? It’s important to figure out considering the Mandalorian was on the planet for half of episode 1 as well, don’t you think?
New study suggests Planet 9 might have already been found
The research, published in Research Notes of the AAS, notes that TESS is able to take multiple images of the same spot in space, potentially locating trans-Neptunian objects, also known as TNOs.
Since TESS is able to detect objects at approximately 5 pixel displacement and Planet Nine “has an expected magnitude of 19 < V < 24,” the possibility is raised “that TESS could discover it!” the authors wrote in the study.
“What TESS is doing is staring at regions in the sky for months for at a time,” the study’s lead author, Harvard University astrophysicist Matt Holman, said in an interview with Fox News. “It’s looking for exoplanets and you can find those by looking at the paths of the host stars.”

Every Planet in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order | Heavy.com
In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order , a new single-player adventure by Respawn Entertainment, players are put in control of former Padawan Cal Kestis as he travels across the galaxy completing a variety of tasks.
In true Star Wars fashion, this journey will expand to several different planets and some of those will be familiar to fans while others will be brand-new, created just for the game.
Keep in mind that this post will contain minor spoilers as we’ll talk about some of the planets the game will take you to as part of the main story. If that doesn’t bother you, then keep on reading.
Skip the holiday rush this year — for the planet’s sake | Grist
It's that time of year again! Time for holiday cheer, good dark beer, and spending all your freakin' money getting laptop-friendly bath trays rush-delivered to your house.
The off-putting thought of me writing this newsletter from the tub is in service of an actual, serious point: The holidays are coming, and with them the temptation to get a whole bunch of shit sent directly to your doorstep. Look — it's tough to be a cool-gift-giving dad while maintaining complete ownership over your soul.

Planet-Hunting Satellite Spots Rare Hot Neptune | Digital Trends
Astronomers have used data from NASA's planet-hunting satellite, TESS , to make an unusual discovery: A planet around the size of Neptune orbiting extremely close to its star. Planet TOI-132b has an orbital period of just 2.11 days and its surface temperature is estimated to be a scorching 2,032 degrees Fahrenheit (1,111 degrees Celsius).
This has lead to a phenomenon that astronomers refer to as the "Neptune desert," an area around a star in which Neptune-sized planets are almost never found.
