NASA’s space pallet concept could land rovers on the moon cheaply and simply –

Detailed in a technical paper published today, the lander is a sort of space pallet: a strong, basic framework that could be a unit in many a future mission. It’s still a concept and doesn’t really have a name, so space pallet will do for now.

The design of the lander was based on a minimum set of level 1 requirements where traditional risk, mass, and performance trade parameters were weighed lower than cost. In other words, the team did not sacrifice ‘good enough’ for ‘better’ or ‘best.’

The Emotional Meaning Of The November 2019 New Moon Is Hopeful

There's a powerful new moon coming up, which means there's still work for you to do before 2020. October's shadowy new moon in Scorpio was about confronting your darkness, and November's full moon in Taurus shed light on your blessings. The emotional meaning of the November 2019 new moon in Sagittarius, however, revolves around your long-term goals and the bigger picture.

The sun enters worldly Sagittarius on Nov. 22, which will definitely lighten up the mood after an intensity-filled Scorpio season. Then, charming Venus will make her way into serious Capricorn on Nov. 25. Irresistible Venus is the planet of love and beauty, so this will certainly bring a shift to your relationships, along with your spending habits.

Former NASA scientist's video shows the moon has no dark side - Business Insider

James O'Donoghue, a former NASA scientist who now works at the Japanese space agency (JAXA), made a new animation to explain how that works.

"Remember not to say 'dark side of the moon' when referring to the 'far side of the moon,'" O'Donoghue said on Twitter. "This graphic shows the dark side is always in motion."

The video shows how sunlight falls across the moon as it orbits Earth. In one orbit of about 29.5 days, all sides of the moon are bathed in sunlight at some point.

Max Q: NASA signs up new Moon delivery companies – TechCrunch

There were lot of highlights in the space industry this past week (even though a rocket launch that was supposed to happened is now pushed to Monday ). The biggest news for commercial space might just be that NASA signed on five new companies to its list of approved vendors for lunar payload delivery services, bringing the total group to 14.

This is the bad news I referred to earlier: SpaceX’s Starship Mk1 prototype in Texas blew up just a little bit during cryo testing. This test is designed to simulate extreme cold conditions that the spacecraft could endure during flight, and it clearly didn’t. But Elon Musk was optimistic, saying just after the incident that they’ll move on to a more advanced design right away.

To the Moon! Research Says U.S.

Universal health care is a buzzword. So is Medicare for All. What about Recycling That's Not Complicated? Maybe there's a better way to put it. But new research shows that nearly eight in 10 Americans believe the federal government needs to take a leadership role in tackling packaging waste, along the lines of the Apollo space project.

Could Weird Lunar Swirls Help People Settle the Moon? | Space

There are captivating features on the moon that stir up thoughts of lyrics from a Carly Simon song: "I had some dreams…they were clouds in my coffee. Clouds in my coffee…"

So, think about adding a squirt of milk into a cup of steaming coffee and give it a whisk. Eddies of cream go swirling around the cup.

On the moon, this pattern is called a " lunar swirl " — bright features that can be tens of miles across and appear as isolated individuals or in extensive groups or belts. Lunar swirls are found where the lunar crust is magnetized, although not all magnetic areas have swirls. Furthermore, the bright areas in the swirls look to be less weathered than their surroundings.
