Researchers in the US have found that simulated microgravity, such as that encountered in spaceflight, disrupts the functioning of the epithelial barrier (the lining in the gut) even after removal from the microgravity environment.
Bacteria, fungi, and viruses can enter the gut through the food that is consumed. Fortunately, the epithelial cells that line our intestines serve as a robust barrier to prevent these microorganisms from penetrating further into the body.

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft returns safely to Earth following botched first launch
THE STARLINER spacecraft has safely landed in the New Mexico desert after its botched Nasa mission.
Boeing's Starliner was sent on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS) a few days ago but problems with its clock being set wrong meant the capsule ended up in the wrong orbit.

Despite things not going to plan, Nasa's Mission Control called the Starliner's desert touchdown a success.
