A partial solar eclipse will occur across northern Australia on December 26. During the afternoon, the Moon will pass in front of the Sun, partially blocking the Sun's bright light.

The eclipse will take place north of Geraldton (WA), Alice Springs (NT) and Townsville (QLD). These towns will barely witness the eclipse, as from their vantage point the Moon just skims past the Sun's outer limb.

Christmas Eve at the Moon: Apollo 8's Historic Message Beamed to Earth Today in 1968 | Space

On Dec. 24, 1968, the astronauts of NASA's Apollo 8 mission beamed home gorgeous images of their home planet as seen from lunar orbit, read some verses from the book of Genesis and wished the people of Earth a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

"We were told that on Christmas Eve we would have the largest audience that had ever listened to a human voice," Apollo 8's Frank Borman said during 40th-anniversary celebrations in 2008, according to a NASA feature about the mission. "And the only instructions that we got from NASA was to do something appropriate."

NASA Will Give Scientists a Lump of Moon Dirt to Unwrap Soon. They're Thrilled. | Space

NASA researchers received an extra special gift this holiday season: a box of Apollo moon soil to study in the new year.

This summer, NASA celebrated the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 mission, which landed humans on the moon in 1969. NASA's Apollo program included six crewed landings between 1969 and 1972, during which astronauts collected 842 lbs. (382 kilograms) of moon soil and rocks . Now, scientists have the opportunity to study those samples in greater detail, using advanced instruments.

Queen Elizabeth Echoes Apollo 11 Moon Landing in Christmas Message | Space

Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the 50th anniversary of NASA's Apollo 11 moon landing in her annual Christmas message to the world on Wednesday (Dec. 25).

"As a child, I never imagined that one day a man would walk on the moon. Yet this year we marked the fiftieth anniversary of the famous Apollo 11 mission," the Queen, 93, said as she began her message. "As those historic pictures were beamed back to earth, millions of us sat transfixed to our television screens, as we watched Neil Armstrong taking a small step for man and a giant leap for mankind -- and, indeed, for womankind."

Jonah Goldberg: We have 2 moon parties, no sun party | TribLIVE.com

Here’s a theory for why our politics are so confusing these days: Neither party wants to be a majority party.

Samuel Lubell, a Polish-born political analyst, famously described this dynamic as the “sun and moon” system of political parties . In our “political solar system,” Lubell wrote in 1951, “it is within the majority party that the issues of any particular period are fought out; while the minority party shines in reflected radiance of the heat thus generated.”

The Vineyard Gazette - Martha's Vineyard News | Venus and the Crescent Moon

Tonight offers us a treat. The bright planet Venus hangs in the western sky. Underneath Venus you'll see the thin waxing crescent moon. The two are a spectacle. It gets better.
Tomorrow night, the moon and Venus are even more impressive as they appear really close together, almost two degrees apart. They are in the zodiacal constellation Capricornus. Take a look.

The show is over by Sunday night, when the moon is a good deal higher in the southwestern sky and has moved farther along the zodiac.

Floating away to wellness: Full Moon Float provides flotation therapy as health benefit | Waco

Austin Parker, owner of Full Moon Float Co., demonstrates floatation therapy in one of three tanks at his business. Different levels and colors of lighting help floaters relax. To the left is a projector that can project soothing images on the ceiling, if desired.

Of all the ways to getting and staying well, one of the newest to Waco may be the simplest: floating.

Austin Parker opened Full Moon Float Company LLC nine months ago to give the general public the opportunity to experience what's called Flotation REST (Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy). More simply, you float in a tank of 90-degree water and Epsom salt.
