NASA warned that three asteroids with Earth-crossing orbits will approach the planet during the weekend. The biggest asteroid from the group is about as long as the wingspan of a Boeing 747 plane.
The first Earth-intersecting asteroid arriving on the weekend has been identified by NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) as 2019 YS2 . According to the agency, this asteroid is currently moving towards Earth at a speed of almost 13,000 miles per hour. It has an estimated diameter of about 69 feet.

That's because the first meteor shower of 2020 looks set to give stargazers a dazzling show just a few nights into the New Year, with the Quadrantids lighting up the night sky in early January.
The shower has been ongoing since 28 December and runs until 12 January, but its peak is on 3 January.

The name comes from Quadrans Muralis, a constellation created in 1795 by French astronomer Jérôme Lalande, from where the meteors appeared to radiate.
