Black Holes in Space - Black Hole Collision - Spikey

Astronomers have been tracking bright jets of high-energy particles that periodically wriggle their way through the universe and into sensors here on Earth. The Kepler space telescope picked up the latest such flare in 2011. Ever since then, scientists have been stumped.

Years ago, scientists proposed that the flares could be caused by a strange, amorphous celestial object—two supermassive black holes, trapped in two different galaxies, circling each other. They playfully named the cosmic object “Spikey.”

Fortnite flashback: Just how accurate was the black hole that launched Chapter 2? | Space

When Fortnite launched its latest incarnation — Chapter 2 — last fall, it did so with cosmic flair: A cosmic event that destroyed online game's island battleground and left a serene black hole in its wake.

As Season 1 of Fortnite's Chapter 2 ends and a new era begins today (Feb. 20), we were wondering: Just how good was the game's version of a black hole, given that scientists recently captured the first photo of an actual black hole last year?

Astronomers Detect Strange Gas Movements Near The Centre of Our Galaxy

Astronomers have detected unusual movements of gas clouds near the centre of our galaxy, and they could be pointing the way to the most elusive species of black hole , according to a new study. For the longest time, we weren't even sure if these types of black holes existed.

Researchers tracking the gasses in the middle of the Milky Way have concluded the clouds are orbiting an object 10,000 times the mass of the Sun - and yet, when they look at where that object should be, nothing is there.

A Blackhole Swallows Lebanon! | Asharq AL-awsat

This February 4, and after the Iranian regime repeatedly denied that the US sanctions have affected their economy, Iranian Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri said that Iran is unable to transfer any money because of the financial sanctions.

Strangely, however, this did not stop the Speaker of the Parliament of Iran, Ali Larijani -who suddenly landed in Beirut last Monday - after meeting President Michel Aoun, from announcing that Iran supports the new government. This new cabient was born out of Hezbollah's womb. Larijani stated that "Iran is ready to work to improve the economic situation in Lebanon". This has reminded some of the saying "The blind cannot lead the blind, otherwise both will fall in a hole".

The EU Budget Black Hole Means The U.K. Can Ignore EU Rules

The U.K. left the EU on January 31 and has until December 31, i.e. 11-months to reach a trade deal with will its European neighbours.

The landscape is clear. The U.K. left the EU as it no longer wanted to be a rule taker. Instead it wanted to forge its own path in the world whilst enjoying a cordial relationship with the EU in matters of defence, security and of course trade.

David Frost, prime minister Boris Johnson's Europe adviser said that the U.K. would not be threatened into following EU rules in the future and is ready to trade with the bloc on basic international terms if needs be.

West Lafayette grad who took first picture of black hole speaking at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE – A West Lafayette graduate and leading member of a team that took the first-ever picture of a black hole will return in March to speak at Purdue.

Katie Bouman will visit Purdue's Honors College March 3 to give a presentation during the third annual Aronson Family Science and Society Honors Lecture. A 2007 West Lafayette High School graduate, Bouman was credited with coming up with the algorithm that cleared the way for the Event Horizon Telescope to take a photo of a black hole in 2019 that is 55 million light years away and has a mass of 6.5 billion times that of the sun.

How Do Black Holes Form? | Discover Magazine

A black hole takes up zero space, but does have mass – originally, most of the mass that used to be a star. And black holes get "bigger" (technically, more massive) as they consume matter near them. The bigger they are, the larger a zone of "no return" they have, where anything entering their territory is irrevocably lost to the black hole. This point of no return is called the event horizon.

* * *

Eventually, by growing and consuming material – planets, stars, errant spaceships, other black holes – astronomers think they evolve into the supermassive black holes that they detect at the center of most major galaxies.

EU budget war: Leaders face huge summit row to plug Brexit blackhole | World | News |

They face the conundrum of trying to find cash to replace Brussels’ £58 billion windfall from the UK across the next seven years while also boosting spending on ambitious pan-European projects controlled by eurocrats from the Belgian capitals. An EU official said: “The facts are the facts. We face a €60-75 billion gap because of Brexit, we are facing new challenges and demands for which money is needed… and the member states have a tight budgetary situation.

Amongst the so-called “Frugal Four” nations – Austria, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands – there are fears that the EU’s economy could be hindered by Brexit, and in the face of uncertainty spending should be curtailed.
