But the world’s billioniest billionaires have taken the prospect to heart and into their own hands, founding private companies dedicated to researching space travel and rocket-building in the admirable quest to make commercial spaceflight a more realistic thing of the near future.

On Saturday, May 30, a SpaceX rocket lifted off at 3:20 EDT from Kennedy Space Center, sending two astronauts into Earth's orbit from U.S. soil for the first time in almost a decade and historically marking a new era of space travel.
SpaceX is a privately held company founded in 2002 by Elon Musk, widely known for his role with the automotive company Tesla. Musk is the CEO and Chief Engineer of SpaceX in addition to being the founder. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a bachelor's in physics from the College of Arts and Sciences there.

SpaceX, in partnership with NASA, successfully launched two astronauts , Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, to the International Space Station inside their Crew Dragon capsule on May 30.
Bob and Doug will likely spend the next few months on ISS (the exact duration of the mission is not yet known), participating in scientific work and validating the functionality of the SpaceX built craft.
