Surgical emergencies are in fact one of the main challenges when it comes to human space travel. But over the last few years, space medicine researchers have come up with a number of ideas that could help, from surgical robots to 3D printers.
Mars is a whopping 54.6 million kilometers (33.9 million miles) away from Earth, when closest. In comparison, the International Space Agency (ISS) orbits just 400 kilometers above Earth. For surgical emergencies on the ISS, the procedure is to stabilize the patient and transport them back to Earth, aided by telecommunication in real time. This won't work on Mars missions, where evacuation would take months or years, and there may be a latency in communications of over twenty minutes.

SpaceX has delayed another of its satellite launches, as it pushes to advance spaceflight further than ever. While the company is aiming to establish a base on the moon and a city on Mars, its plans rest on reusing rockets faster than ever – but it's struggling to get those times down.
On Monday, SpaceflightNow reported that SpaceX was planning to delay the launch of the Anasis 2 satellite. This was expected to send up a South Korean military satellite using a Falcon 9 rocket, taking off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The launch window was set to open at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

Space tourism and colonization seems like the stuff of science fiction, but as retired Los Alamos National Laboratory employee Rick Wallace explained Friday night, it is quickly becoming a reality.
His presentation touched on space exploration's beginnings in the U.S. with the Apollo missions to present-day developments such as billionaires Jeff Bezos' and Elon Musk's ventures into commercial space travel as well as NASA's plans to build a permanent base on the moon by 2024 and send humans to Mars in the next 15 years.

WASHINGTON: NASA has announced that it would open the International Space Station to private individuals and more commercial business at roughly USD 35,000 (approx. Rs 26 lakh) per night per astronaut.
NASA said it is opening the International Space Station for commercial business so U.S. industry innovation and ingenuity can accelerate a thriving commercial economy in low-Earth orbit.
The space agency expects to accommodate two short-term private astronaut visits to the space station every year. The spacecraft will be designed in partnership with Boeing and Elon Musk's SpaceX, known as the Commercial Crew Program. The missions can last as long as 30 night.
