The job of harvesting cauliflowers could one day be in the mechanical hands of robots thanks to a collaboration between scientists and the French canned vegetable producer Bonduelle.
An early prototype already exists, developed by Fieldwork's co-founder Dr Martin Stoelen, lecturer in robotics at the University of Plymouth and associate professor at the Western Norway University of Applied Science. It has a gripper and a cutter that can neatly slice off a cauliflower head.

Boston Dynamics delivers plan for logistics robots as early as next year – TechCrunch
Playter, interviewed on the virtual main stage of Disrupt 2020, only recently ascended from COO to that role after many years of working there, after longtime CEO and founder Marc Raibert stepped aside to focus on R&D. This is Playter’s first public speaking engagement since taking on the new responsibility, and it’s clear he has big plans for Boston Robotics.
The recent commercialization of Spot , the versatile quadrupedal robot that is a distant descendant of the famous Big Dog, showed Playter and the company that there is a huge demand for what they’re offering, even if they’re not completely sure where that demand is.
Soft robots, origami combine for potential way to deliver medical treatments
The researchers from The Ohio State University and the Georgia Institute of Technology detailed their discovery, which makes use of the ancient Japanese practice of origami, in a study published Sept. 14 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences .
Under this system, doctors would use magnetic fields to steer the soft robot inside the body, bringing medications or treatments to places that need them, said Renee Zhao , corresponding author of the paper and assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Ohio State.

Samsung Electronics Obtains ISO Certification for Personal Care Robot System With GEMS Hip
Samsung Electronics has become the first company to obtain the ISO 13482 (Robots and robotic devices — Safety requirements for personal care robots) certification in Korea, an international certification, which marks a significant achievement for assistive personal care robot GEMS (Gait Enhancing and Motivating System) Hip.

ISO 13482 is a globally recognized standard established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2014 to ensure safety in the use of mobile servant robots, physical assistant robots, and person carrier robots. The certification formally recognizes the safety and product quality of Samsung GEMS Hip in conformance with the requirements of ISO 13482.
Rather than Replacing Jobs, Robots will Make Work Safer
The partnership between people and machines will outlast the pandemic and redefine the future of work.
Pairing robots with humans can do physical work and deliver real intelligence. Perception and the ability of making decisions enable creation to continue in environments that would not be safe or pleasant for humans.
Consequently, this pairing is as effective as the robot itself. Boston Dynamics has created machines that have some of the physical intelligence that humans tend to take for granted. Negotiating messed-up room without tripping, climbing stairs, opening a door automatically becomes natural once we cross the toddler’s stage. However, until recently, these necessary skills have been beyond the capability of most mobile robots.
