NASA Finally Built a Space Toilet for Women - The Atlantic

But the most important new feature is the one that allows astronauts to do something that the rest of us mostly take for granted on Earth. There's no artful way to put this, so I'm just going to say it: The current toilets on the International Space Station aren't conducive to peeing and pooping at the same time.

This matters more for the women in the astronaut corps, for whom the two bodily functions can be trickier to separate. For years, women astronauts have been carefully positioning themselves over the bowl, exchanging tips with their colleagues on best practices, and trying to make do with hardware that wasn't built for their bodies.

And here's another article:

NASA Just Sent a New $23 Million Space Toilet to the International Space Station | Science

To help its astronauts boldly go, NASA just shipped a newly designed space toilet to the International Space Station. The first new commode designed in decades will eventually be used for deep space missions, but for now the agency wants to test it out a little closer to home.

The toilet, known as the Universal Waste Management System , arrived at the International Space Station on October 5 as part of a cargo resupply shipment. NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and his Russian colleagues, Ivan Wagner and Anatoly Ivanishin, are in the process of unpacking the cargo ship, and plan to install the toilet very soon.

Mars Horizon Preview: Behind The Scenes Of Space Travel

Mars Horizon is not just another space simulator. This realistic experience puts players behind the scenes of interstellar travel and in charge of an entire space station. While other space games such as Kerbal Space Program focus on psychics or exploration, Mars Horizon dials these features back to focus on what it's really like to manage the operations of a space agency.

When it comes to piloting a space ship and exploring the universe, Mars Horizon is a very hands-off experience. This may turn some players away from the game, but Mars Horizon focuses on putting players in the role of managing risks and rewards. Just like a real space agency, not everyone gets to man the rocket, and Mars Horizon is about the people back on Earth who are tasked with making the tough calls.

Transcending Gravity: The View from Postcolonial Dhaka to Colonies in Space - Los Angeles Review

O'Neill's vision left an enormous footprint on the Western imagination. His reports, books, and monographs were republished many times, offering tens of thousands of American space enthusiasts a new calling after the Apollo moon landings. In a 1978 review of O'Neill's work in Physics Today , former NASA astronaut Philip K. Chapman noted that

Scharmen recounts the familiar early history of the O'Neill project: an initial meeting funded by Brand in 1974 at Princeton and the subsequent publication of O'Neill's now-classic paper "The Colonization of Space" in Physics Today later that year. The New York Times covered the meeting, drawing in many fellow travelers to the cause.

A San Antonio company is partnering with the military and SpaceX to move cargo anywhere in the world in an hour using commercial spacecraft — including vertical-landing rockets built in Texas.

U.S. Transportation Command, which is responsible for moving military personnel and equipment around the world, said it’s working with Exploration Architecture, or XArc, and Elon Musk’s SpaceX to develop “rapid transportation through space” capabilities.

WRITE ON: Mars! Mars! What about Earth? | Opinion | fltimes.com

It's part of our national heritage, a psychological hand-me-down from immigrant ancestors who fled their native countries to come to North America. Many European arrivals, or their progeny, eventually pushed west across the continent to the Pacific Ocean.

It all helps explain the popularity of two recent Netflix science fiction series, "Away" and "Mars," both of which summon up a 21st Century intergalactic Manifest Destiny to travel to the Red Planet.

HBO developing Elon Musk-SpaceX series from producer Channing Tatum

Doug Jung (cinematic scribe on Star Trek Beyond and The Cloverfield Paradox ) will write and executive-produce the show, which Tatum is producing under his Free Association banner alongside Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Vance and Len Amato ( The Normal Heart ) are also attached as producers.

Thanks to companies like SpaceX and Tesla , Musk has proved himself a visionary (and sometimes controversial ) figure. Nevertheless, he is among the scientific pioneers who are helping lead the way for humanity's potential future among the stars via privately funded space travel programs. He even sent a car into space and the vehicle recently passed by Mars . Musk's net worth is estimated to be $100 billion.
