Mysterious mini monolith appears in downtown Fayetteville
Across the globe, tall monoliths have sprouted up randomly. As of Dec. 3, a smaller monolith sprouted up in downtown Fayetteville.
Monoliths have been spotted in England, Pittsburgh, Utah and California. The first monolith, a three-sided metal structure, which stood at 10 feet, was discovered in Utah.
The 3-foot tall structure appeared in the raised flower bed on the sidewalk in front of McKee Homes Design Studios at 109 Hay St., according to a news release from Cool Spring Downtown District. The three-sided bare structure has left many questioning where it came from and who put it there.

For 57 years, Arecibo had been picking up signals from space. The earlier cable losses caused so much damage, however, that the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced its telescope could not be saved. On November 19, NSF announced it would begin taking apart this 305-meter (1,000 foot) ear on the sky.
Haynes had been using this telescope, located in Puerto Rico. Data from Arecibo helped her start a list of areas in space filled with hydrogen, an important gas. That list could help scientists learn how large collections of stars and planets form. "For those of us who use Arecibo and had hoped to use it in the future, it's a disaster," she says of the news.

LAS CRUCES - Many may have come across a viral image of a metal monolith at White Sands National Park this week on social media, following the discoveries of similar structures in Albuquerque and El Paso. But don't get too excited — the White Sands image was only posted for a laugh, according to its creator.
Daniel Acuña is in the multimedia business in Las Cruces. He said he saw people posting on social media about the Albuquerque monolith and thought it would be fun to photoshop an image to look like it was placed among the famous gypsum dunes of southern New Mexico.

Our galaxy has blown some bubbles. Astronomers have spotted a pair of enormous bubbles of plasma extending above and below the Milky Way and emitting X-rays, and they probably came from an extraordinary event in the galaxy's centre.
Andrea Merloni at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany and his colleagues found these balloons of hot plasma using the eROSITA X-ray telescope aboard the Spektr-RG space observatory. Pictures of the entire sky from eROSITA revealed giant spheres of gas extending more than 45,000 light years above and below the disc of the galaxy. For comparison, the Milky Way is about 105,000 light years across.

In these experiments, three heterotrophic bacteria were cultivated in a biomining reactor under three different gravity conditions: simulated terrestrial (Earth) gravity, simulated Mars gravity, and microgravity.

As CNN reports , Musk broke the news to Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Matt Murray at the paper's CEO Council annual summit Tuesday. While Musk admitted that, "There are a lot of things that are really great about California"—where Tesla and Musk's extraterrestrial venture, SpaceX, are both headquartered—he said he feels the Golden State has grown complacent in its success.
