New Moons mark the end of one lunar cycle and the start of the next one. Symbolically, New Moons are seen as an opportunity to start anew and plan ahead. Astronomically speaking, however, New Moons are the natural consequence of our satellite's orbit of the Earth.

The phases in order are New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and Waning Crescent.
As the Moon races around our planet, the amount of sunlight that falls on it's near or Earth-facing side changes.

South Korea's Moon says will make 'last-ditch' effort for North Korea breakthrough
SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Monday he remains committed to engaging with North Korea, and that cooperation on issues such as anti-epidemic work could help lead to a breakthrough in stalled talks in the last years of his term.
Seoul will make efforts to jumpstart talks between the United States and North Korea as U.S. President-elect Joe Biden prepares to take office, Moon said during his annual New Year's speech.
"Dialogue and co-prosperity are key drivers of the peace process on the Korean Peninsula," he said. "Our will to meet anytime, anywhere, and willingness to talk...remains unchanged."
Will increasing traffic to the Moon contaminate its precious ice?

For the first time ever, several of the upcoming missions will explore some of the Moon's most scientifically intriguing, yet sensitive areas — those at its poles. Researchers are excited about studying water that lies frozen in shadowed craters in these regions. But they're also worried that increased traffic to the Moon might contaminate the very ice they want to study.
Wolf Moon: How to See the First Full Moon of 2021 This Month | Travel + Leisure
As new challenges come our way in 2021 , there's only one thing for sure: The sun will still shine, and so will the moon. This year's first full moon, also known as the Wolf Moon, will occur on Jan. 28 at 7:16 p.m. UTC, or 2:16 p.m. EST. Of course, that's still during daylight for many places.
The Old Farmer's Almanac assigns nicknames to the full moons based on their Native American and colonial names. January's full moon is called the Wolf Moon because people frequently hear wolves howling at night in the winter. (That said, wolves don't actually howl at the moon — howling is a form of communication, whether that's for marking territory or calling the pack together.)

America's first "moon shot" succeeded 75 years ago today. For the first time, a team of U.S. Army engineers bounced a radar signal off the surface of the Moon and captured its echoes here on Earth. The effort, called Project Diana, laid the groundwork for radio communications with spacecraft, radar missile defense systems, and mapping the surfaces of our nearest planetary neighbors.
