Aída Salazar, a children's book author in Oakland, had a typical 1970s Los Angeles upbringing. Her parents moved their family from a small city in Zacatecas, Mexico, to the Estrada Courts in Boyle Heights when she was just 9 months old. About five years later, as housing restrictions eased and white flight began, they moved into a house in Maywood.
Regarding "alien," there is a baked-in stigma associated with a word that's also synonymous with Martians and Mandalorians, advocates say.

Wood is bullish about the sector because "the costs associated with launching, with rockets themselves, with antenna – they're all coming down dramatically." Another point mentioned by Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas is that the sector is "increasingly existential" and the next frontier of human innovation.
Freedom to express doesn't mean truth and more letters to the editors | Chattanooga Times Free
It is little wonder so many continue to believe the 2020 election was fraudulently "stolen" from Trump. Conspiracy theories and "alternative facts" abound these days and put doubts into just about everything we thought we knew.
There are many (too many?) social networking sites run by oddballs who project outrageous disinformation. QAnon spins disturbing delusions. TV's "Ancient Aliens" and UFO stories have many of us doubting humanity's past accomplishments. And surely "reality shows" are not real; at least they shouldn't be.

Quite a lot has been going on:
Progressives should focus more on work-study and other earn-while-you-learn models (opinion)
Programs like Federal Work-Study and apprenticeships get short shrift, but they could help millions of people get educated and trained, Ryan Craig argues.
When I was the same age my kids are now, I was a giant Carl Sagan fan. Cosmos had begun airing on PBS, and for my birthday there was just one thing I wanted: a $50 donation to the Buffalo PBS affiliate. That was the only way to get the not-available-in-any-store (especially not a Canadian store) Cosmos companion book featuring lots of photos of Cornell’s least modest professor of astronomy and space sciences.

“At first, I thought it was some sort of reflection on the camera lens, but you will see from the video that the object very clearly has a reflection on the lake,” said Yarbrough.
