A man has told how his "heart sank" when his wedding ring fell into a pile of rubbish at a tip on Valentine's Day.
James Ross was dropping off cardboard at North Shields recycling centre when it flew off his finger and disappeared 10ft (3m) into a container.
Mr Ross, 38, from Cullercoats, said his wife Lara, 40, thought he had made up an "elaborate" story.

"My hands were cold and, as I was shaking out the box, suddenly the ring was just gone. I don't know if it caught the edge of the box, but my heart just sank."

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Paul Grisham's wallet was missing for so long at the bottom of the world he forgot all about it.
Fifty-three years later, the 91-year-old San Diego man has the billfold back along with mementos of his 13-month assignment as a Navy meteorologist on Antarctica in the 1960s.
"I was just blown away," Grisham told The San Diego Union-Tribune after the wallet was returned on Saturday. "There was a long series of people involved who tracked me down and ran me to ground."

Around midnight on Oct. 26, 1958, Alvin Cohen and Phillip Small were taking a drive by Loch Raven Reservoir in Towson when they said a great, iridescent, egg-shaped object appeared above a bridge.
The young men inched closer and the car stopped dead — no headlights, no engine, no ignition, as if the entire electrical system had given out.

The hovering object was filmed by a woman in the Gulf of Mexico and shared on social media where many thought it was an alien spacecraft.
The sighting took place at Miramar Beach in the coastal city of Ciudad Madero in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas on February 1.
The video, shared by social media user 'Patty Azuara', shows a large glowing object hovering over the sea.
She captioned the footage: "Today as I was running on the beach at 7.12am and I spotted these lights."

A mysterious light cluster was spotted in the night sky near Charlotte, N.C ., over the weekend, leading to a debate on social media over the possible presence of UFOs in the area, according to a report.

She said: “I walked out of the grocery store with my family and happened to notice the lights.
”We watched for a moment, I had watched approximately six military helicopters fly over that area that same morning so thought maybe it was them returning.
However, she added how although she has no explanation for the lights, she suspects they were simply a trick of the light.
