OPINION | MASTERSON ONLINE: Triangle in the sky

Reader Paul Gray of Conway responded to my recent call for Arkansans who've shared a UFO encounter. And his unusual experience years ago is as credible as they come in my view.

"You solicited readers to recount stories concerning UFO encounters; I've finally decided to share mine," he wrote.

The year was 1984. Paul and future wife Jennifer were sitting in his car within 200 yards of her home in Gonzales, La., near Baton Rouge While stargazing, they noticed two unusually bright lights hovering low on the southern horizon.

E.J. Liddell's 19 points power Ohio State over Indiana, 78-59 | Sports | news-herald.com

Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, center, reaches for a rebound between Ohio State forward Zed Key, left, and forward E.J. Liddell on Feb. 13 in Columbus.

COLUMBUS — With a rout of Indiana, No. 4 Ohio State has won six straight and nine out of the last 10, and the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee on Saturday projected the Buckeyes as a No. 1 seed in the tournament next month.

Without a superstar performer, Ohio State (17-4, 11-4 Big Ten) has gotten there with a hustling style of play that has become its identity — good shooting, aggressive rebounding on both ends, multiple role players contributing and making fewer mistakes than its opponents.

VOICES OF INEQUITY: Dance studio gives Norristown student glimpse over the border | News |

Editor's Note: Journalism students at Ursinus College, supported by a grant from Project Pericles, dedicated a semester to interviewing students at Montgomery County public high schools to get their perspective on the impact Pennsylvania's inequitable school funding had on their education.

At Norristown High School, Chaaraoui is an active, successful student. She is a member of eight clubs and ranked high in her grade as a junior.

But despite her successes, one of the more difficult parts of going to the school is the reputation that precedes it.

Quite a lot has been going on:

Ranch bordering Area 51 for sale, including black mailbox famous with the alien-obsessed | WSAV-TV

MYSTERY WIRE — Have you ever wanted to buy a ranch that allows you to access the top-secret Area 51 military base? You are going to need to dig out your checkbook. The Medlin Ranch is on the market . It is the only cattle ranch that is directly adjacent to the world's best-known military base.

That ranch is also home to one of the most enduring stories about Area 51 — the legend of the black mailbox.

Nevada's Tikaboo Valley is beautiful but sparse. It is not the place you might think to raise and graze cattle. And when a cowboy named Steve Medlin first moved into the valley in the early 1970s, there were no buildings, no running water and no other utilities.

This Air Force Jet Was Scrambled to Intercept a UFO—Then Disappeared - HISTORY

The night an Air Force jet mysteriously disappeared over Lake Superior—November 23, 1953—was a stormy one.

Near the U.S.-Canadian border, U.S. Air Defense Command noticed a blip on the radar where it shouldn’t have been: an unidentified object in restricted air space over Lake Superior, not far from Soo Locks, the Great Lakes’ most vital commercial gateway. An F-89C Scorpion jet, from Truax Air Force Base in Madison, Wisconsin, took off from nearby Kinross AFB to investigate, with two crew members on board.

E. Washington Man Directs National UFO Center | Spokane Public Radio

If you've ever reported seeing something unusual in the sky, chances are the news eventually reached the national tracking center for unidentified flying objects. That center is located in eastern Washington.

Little did he know then, but 40 years later, he would take over as director of the National UFO Reporting Center and move it to his home near Davenport, about 30 miles west of Spokane. The center is housed in an unusual location, deep underground at the site of a former Atlas ICBM missile site.
