LOS ANGELES — "Resident Alien," a new Syfy series that caught the attention of veteran TV critic Rob Owen and approving viewers, is evidence that inventive shows exist outside premium cable and streaming services.
"It's been a while since there's been a cable show, a basic cable show on USA or Syfy or another one of those channels, that's struck me as something I would go back and give another look," Owen, a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review columnist, said of the comic book-inspired series that arrived in January.

Yesterday, the Pharr Police Department contacted RGV agents requesting their assistance with a possible human smuggling stash house operating in Pharr, Texas. When agents and officers arrived on scene, they discovered 71 illegal aliens inside the home. Agents determined the subjects were from the countries of Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, and Honduras. Among the group, three children were discovered traveling by themselves.

This is not as far fetched as it sounds. I for one certainly don’t have the intelligence to sail a rock in outer space. I get lost driving a car in New Jersey.
Or how about this. Just a couple of days ago a commercial pilot flying over New Mexico radioed that a long cylindrical object moving at unprecedented speed raced over the top of his American Airlines passenger jet bound for Phoenix. The pilot, thinking it might be a cruise missile from the nearby White Sands Range, wanted to know from ground control if there was a target in the area. Hopefully a target other than the plane he was flying.
