Tardi... gun? Scientists Shoot Tardigrades To See Survival Odds Across Solar System
The Star Trek tardigrade that connected to the spores and understood the mycelial network is actually based on a tiny microscopic invertebrate that’s also affectionately called a water bear. What’s even more interesting than that is that the creature is thought to be (one of) the toughest beings on Earth. That, of course, triggered scientists’ curiosity as to whether it could survive in outer space, projectiled with the help of a gun.
Scientists from the University of Kent came up with the idea of a “tardigun” to test the tardigrades’ odds of survival in the Solar System . They used two groups to understand whether the creatures could survive this process.

The next full Moon will be on Wednesday morning, May 26, 2021, appearing opposite the Sun in Earth-based longitude at 7:14 a.m. EDT. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Monday night through Thursday morning.
While this time will be on Wednesday for most of the Earth, for Baker Island and the Pacific Ocean in the timezone just west of the International Date Line this will be before midnight on Tuesday morning. On the other side of the International Date Line, for the Pacific Ocean and islands that fall under Phoenix Island Time, West Samoa Time, and Line Islands Time, this will be after midnight on Thursday morning.
Unexpected heavy metal vapors found in the atmosphere of comets in our solar system - and beyond
Astronomers know that the dusty and rocky interiors of comets contain heavy metals. But since solid metals typically do not sublimate – become gaseous from the solid state immediately – at low temperatures, researchers did not expect to find heavy metals in the atmospheres of cold comets venturing away from the sun. .
The STAR Institute team also discovered that the atmospheres of comets contain roughly equal amounts of iron and nickel. Typically, materials in our solar system, such as those from the sun and meteorites, contain about ten times more iron than nickel. This new finding therefore has implications for our understanding of the origin of comets and the early solar system, although the team is not yet sure of its implications.
Can I claim a home solar system on tax?
Solar solutions are your best friend when working from home – and there are ways you can even claim it on tax, so you can begin to enjoy the savings sooner.
If you are running your business remotely, then a solar system can be deducted from your EOFY taxes. An Australian Tax Office representative confirmed that a rooftop system could be claimed under the $20,000 instant asset write-off scheme .
"The cost of a solar system can be claimed under the $20,000 instant asset write-off, where the system costs less than $20,000, and it is bought and used by an eligible small business to generate electricity for use in the business," the representative said.

East Devon: Boy, 11, 'climbs' solar system's tallest mountain & wins praise
An 11-year-old schoolboy from Exeter used the stairs in his family's East Devon business to ‘climb’ the solar system's tallest mountain, winning praise from NASA.
He believes his climb could be record-breaking, with Jack being the youngest person to complete the solo ascent.
The youngster climbed the stairs at home in Exeter, and at the family bakery business in Woodbury Salterton, in East Devon, going up 9,500 times to complete the 25,000m summit.
