UFO sightings spark concern from more than just conspiracy theorists

While UFOs are often synonymous with aliens in pop culture, those who study the phenomenon say UFOs should be understood by their literal name: unidentified flying objects. Once identified, they may have a mundane explanation — weather balloons, drones or the planet Venus.

That's led people like Drezner to conclude more bluntly: "What I do know is that UFOs exist … we can't ignore this any more," he said.

The view has been thrust into the spotlight recently, with news that an unclassified Pentagon report on UFOs is soon headed to Congress.

UFO intelligence report due next month after military sightings, including off Virginia coast |

RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) — An intelligence report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon, commonly referred to as UFOs, is due to Congress next month, weeks after widespread renewed interest in the unexplained sightings.

Gone are the days of the US government scoffing at the idea of UFOs. Military personnel increasingly say they have seen the moving images in the sky; prompting a report ordered by Congress .

"Look at that thing, it's rotating,” one service member said when looking at a unidentified object flying off the Florida coast in 2015; the Pentagon labeled the sighting as “ Gimbal .”

UFO sightings in Canada down below pre-pandemic levels | CTV News

TORONTO -- This year has seen a drop in UFO sightings after a sharp rise in 2020, but a Canadian ufologist said it's not unusual to see these numbers wax and wane.

Ontario, Quebec and B.C. have led the country for most UFO sightings, according to Ufology Research reports.

"There's somewhere around 1,000 UFO reports filed in Canada every year, it works out to something like three a day or a night," Chris Rutkowski, ufologist, told CTVNews.ca in a Zoom interview on Thursday.

US intelligence report to address UFO sightings, United States News & Top Stories - The Straits

WASHINGTON • Are aliens watching us? That is what Americans hope to find out when a report on the United States government's secret files on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) goes to Congress next month after years of sightings and videos suggesting that highly advanced extraterrestrials are, indeed, out there.

But the report, pulled together with classified military files, could fall short of explaining scores of purported UFO incidents over decades.

On tap for June: UFO report, Jupiter in morning and summer solstice

According to some US fighter pilots and former government officials, they may be. In a recent "60 Minutes" segment, the former director of the defense department's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program said that "unidentified aerial phenomena" in US airspace is of serious concern.

The director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense are expected to present an unclassified report to Congress on this subject around June 1.

Here are some problems I see with the ability of aliens to travel the vast distances in space. It takes light traveling at 186,000 miles per second 4.5 years to reach the closest star to our solar system.

Do UFOs exist? A report due in June may provide clues

When former President Donald Trump signed his final stimulus package in December, it included a provision for a publicly available report on UFOs to be published within six months.

For years, however, the military and the federal government have been gradually sounding the alarm about possible UFOs.

When John Brennan, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, appeared on Conversations with Tyler, a podcast with the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, he also hinted more may be out there.
