Artworks Orbiting the Thinking of Hannah Arendt
LONDON — In a year when much of the world as we know it has been on its knees, is it not a bold, if not almost otherworldly, move for a small gallery to devote an entire year of exhibitions to Hannah Arendt, a famous thinker whose works we all aspire to read in depth some day soon?
The entire enterprise feels 100 percent high-minded, shot through with a level of dedication to the sanctity of ideas that museums can seldom afford to aspire to these days, given that they are stone broke.
You can see the International Space Station (and China's Tianhe, too) in the night sky this
If your weather is clear this weekend, step outside and stare upward anytime from one to two hours after sundown. If you're fortunate to be located well away from any bright lights, break out a long lounge or deck-chair and get comfortable.
Once your eyes have fully adapted to the dark, you might be able to count several hundred stars of varying degrees of brightness. But you also may also see some other interesting sights, some natural like tiny falling rocks and others less so, like China's Tianhe space station just a week after it launched into space.
Space junk warning in Ohio
Among the 31 potential disasters for which Ohio’s EMA is prepared is one that falls from the sky but is not precipitation. It is a hazard from the heavens.
“One of our less hazards or lesser hazards — you know the risk to it but is out there — is space junk,” said Ohio EMA Director Sima Merick. “In our hazard analysis, space junk is there and periodically we will see, you know, that there is something falling. We get a warning that something is falling, you know, an old satellite or something,” said Merick.
Starlink's low-orbiting satellites could bring internet relief for rural Pa.
It's certainly not a new issue – Three years ago, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf created the Pennsylvania Broadband Incentive Program, which provided up to $35 million in financial incentives to entities interested in expanding rural access to broadband internet.
High-speed internet, or broadband, can be delivered to a structure by four methods — cable, DSL, fiber and satellite.
That Massive Chinese Rocket Just Fell To Earth
A 21-ton section of a rocket launched by China's space agency finally returned to Earth's atmosphere Saturday night, falling above either the Indian Ocean or the Arabian Peninsula, after the booster spent days careering toward the planet in a fast, out-of-control orbit.
The Long March-5B rocket blasts off from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in south China's Hainan ... [+] Province on April 29, 2021.
The core booster of the Long March-5B rocket re-entered Earth's atmosphere over the Indian Ocean near the Maldives at 10:24 p.m. Eastern time, the Chinese Manned Space Engineering Office said on social media Saturday.
TESS Finds Massive Exoplanet around 10-Billion-Year-Old Dwarf Star | Astronomy | Sci-News.com
Astronomers using NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite have discovered a sub-Neptune exoplanet orbiting TOI-220 , a bright and old K-type dwarf star located 290 light-years away in the constellation of Pictor.

"Among all the confirmed exoplanets, one class of particular interest are the small-sized planets — with radii less than 5 Earth radii — orbiting bright stars with periods shorter than 10 days," said Dr. Sergio Hoyer of Aix Marseille University and his colleagues.
Astronomy Day returns to Springfield Museums | WWLP
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– Astronomy Day at the Springfield Museums returns on Saturday, May 15.
In-person events had been cancelled due to the pandemic, but now the Museums will offer in-person and virtual experiences for anyone wanting to learn about the stars and planets of our solar system.
"We are excited to see star enthusiasts in-person this year!" said Kevin Kopchynski, the Springfield Museums' Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) educator and Planetarium Manager. "And we are pleased to also offer a virtual experience."
How to See the SpaceX Starlink Train – NBC Los Angeles
The stars appeared to align over Southern California this week, but that parade of lights in the night sky was actually a chain of small satellites deployed to bring internet access to the entire planet.
The satellites are sometimes visible in the first few minutes after sundown and before sunrise when the sun is below the horizon, but the satellites are high enough to reflect direct sunlight.
NASA spacecraft begins 2-year trip home with asteroid rubble
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — With rubble from an asteroid tucked inside, a NASA spacecraft fired its engines and began the long journey back to Earth on Monday, leaving the ancient space rock in its rearview mirror.
Osiris-Rex reached asteroid Bennu in 2018 and spent two years flying near and around it, before collecting rubble from the surface last fall.
