Dennis Kucinich, the former U.S. congressman, two-time presidential candidate, onetime Fox News contributor, decades-long Shirley MacLaine confidante and seer of UFOs, whose liberal views often put him to the far left of the Democratic Party, is returning to his political roots.
The 74-year-old is running for mayor of Cleveland, a post he held beginning in 1977 at 31, making him the youngest executive of a major city at the time.
Kucinich has had a career of fits and starts. He served only one two-year term as mayor, losing reelection after leading the city into default. His Ohio congressional seat was eliminated in redistricting, and he lost the Democratic primary in 2012 to Rep. Marcy Kaptur, whose district had absorbed part of his. He lost in a landslide in the primary when he ran for Ohio governor in 2018.
