Rep. Louie Gohmert , R-Texas, suggested at a congressional hearing that climate change could be combatted by altering the orbit of the moon and asked a U.S. Forest Service official whether there was any way the agency could do it.
Gohmert made the comments Tuesday during a House Natural Resources Committee hearing on four bills as he was questioning Jennifer Eberlien, an associate deputy chief of the Forest Service.
"I understand, from what's been testified to the Forest Service and the BLM, you want very much to work on the issue of climate change," Gohmert said, referring to the Bureau of Land Management.
See the 'Super Flower Blood Moon' from orbit as only astronauts could (photos) | Space
Astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) got a spectacular view of May's lunar eclipse from orbit. Images from NASA show the moon partially obscured by Earth's shadow, with parts of the ISS visible in the foreground. At one point, astronauts could see the partial eclipse intersect with the Earth's horizon.
Some viewers on Earth, however, did get to see the "blood moon" — also known as the Super Flower Blood Moon because it coincided with a supermoon and the Full Flower Moon of May. Because the Flower Moon occurred when the moon was near perigee, the closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, it appeared slightly larger than average, a phenomenon informally referred to as a " supermoon ."
What causes a super flower ‘blood’ moon? | WJBF
(NEXSTAR) – The second supermoon of 2021 will bring with it a cosmic phenomenon on Wednesday: the only total lunar eclipse of the year.
But what causes a super flower “blood” moon? It’s a series of phenomenon in conjunction.
The " Full Flower Moon " will grace the night sky on Wednesday, marking the second of three supermoons this year. This moon got its name because of the abundance of springtime flowers in the Northern Hemisphere around this time, according to the Farmer's Almanac. May is also the time when farmers begin to seed their fields after hard frosts have ended.
Jupiter’s moon Ganymede seen up close for first time in 21 years – Astronomy Now
NASA’s Juno spacecraft flew by Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon, Monday on the first close-up visit to the icy world since 2000.
The solar-powered Juno spacecraft’s JunoCam imager and navigation camera took pictures as the orbiter zipped by Ganymede at 1735 GMT Monday at a distance of about 1,038 kilometres (645 miles).
"This is the closest any spacecraft has come to this mammoth moon in a generation," said Scott Bolton, the Juno mission’s principal investigator from the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. "We are going to take our time before we draw any scientific conclusions, but until then we can simply marvel at this celestial wonder — the only moon in our solar system bigger than the planet Mercury."
His dad designed the GM moon buggy, now he has a new mission
"I remember him and my father sitting at the table working on those yellow notepads with a slide rule and protractor," said Barber, who was about 8 or 9 years old at the time. "My dad had yellow tablets all over the house because my dad was always doing math. I remember my dad telling me, 'This guy is going to the moon.' I remember asking (Irwin), 'How do you pee in space?' "
Irwin was the lunar module pilot on the 1971 Apollo 15 mission. He was the eighth man to walk on the moon. Apollo 15 was the first time NASA used a Lunar Roving Vehicle to drive on the moon. GM engineers, including Barber's father, designed the vehicle's mobility system.
Senate passes huge tech funding bill, includes $10 billion for NASA moon landers | Space
The U.S. Senate passed a spending bill on Tuesday (June 8) that would allocate nearly $250 billion to American scientific and technical research — including $10 billion for the development of private crewed moon landers for NASA .
The U.S. Innovation and Competition Act sailed through the Senate on a 68-32 vote. As its name suggests, the bill is designed to boost American industrial and technological competitiveness, chiefly with China.
The bill, which was previously known as the Endless Frontiers Act, includes an amendment recently added by Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.). The amendment would grant NASA just over $10 billion for the development of crewed moon landers that will be used by the agency's Artemis program , which is working to establish a sustainable human presence on and around the moon by the end of the 2020s.
Chris Martin: I want to perform on the moon! | Entertainment | insidenova.com
Chris Martin wants to perform on the moon with Coldplay, although no-one would be able to hear it because space is a vacuum with no sound.
He told 'The Zach Sang Show': "Not many people have done it, that's true. But isn't there an issue that if you play on the moon no one can actually hear? I am confused about the atmosphere.
"We would try anything twice. I don't mind any ridicule as I just speak what feels true to me. That is what we all have to do."
The moon is in sight! | National Hog Farmer
The spaceship "Hog Market" lifted off in February, and the craft is approaching its zenith—the moon is in sight. The low end of my long-held upside target in June hogs was achieved last week at $120.00/cwt. My upside target was $120.00-125.00, and there's still fuel in the booster. After the June hog contract goes off the board, my final upside target basis the July hogs will be the range from $130.00-$132.00.
What a difference thirty days can make. The last time I tapped the keyboard for this article, the CME lean hog index stood at $106.89 and the value of the hog carcass was measured at $110.46. Today, the CME lean hog index stands at $114.75 and the carcass is quoted at $132.63. The math majors in the crowd will quickly notice the trend. Cash has only ticked up $7.00 whereas the carcass has appreciated by $22.00.

A annular (partial solar) eclipse is seen as the sun rises over Scituate Lighthouse in Scituate, ... [+] Massachusetts on June 10, 2021. - Northeast states in the U.S. will see a rare eclipsed sunrise, while in other parts of the Northern Hemisphere, this annular eclipse will be seen as a visible thin outer ring of the sun's disk that is not completely covered by the smaller dark disk of the moon, a so-called "ring of fire".
Here are the best eclipse photos for your enjoyment along with a rundown of exactly what happened, where, and when is the next eclipse:
