The purple hues in this image show X-ray emissions from Jupiter's auroras, detected by NASA's Chandra Space Telescope in 2007. They are overlaid on an image of Jupiter taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Jupiter is the only gas giant planet where scientists have detected X-ray auroras.
New photos from the Mars helicopter Ingenuity's 9th flight help refine Perseverance rover science
"Once a rover gets close enough to a location, we get ground-scale images that we can compare to orbital images," Perseverance Deputy Project Scientist Ken Williford of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California said in a statement .
"Our current plan is to visit Raised Ridges and investigate it close up," Williford said. "The helicopter's images are by far better in resolution than the orbital ones we were using. Studying these will allow us to ensure that visiting these ridges is important to the team."
Virgin Galactic's rocket reaches edge of space with Richard Branson on board
Branson, the British entrepreneur, earned his astronaut wings Sunday after flying to the edge of space aboard a rocket-powered vehicle developed by his space tourism company, Virgin Galactic .
Branson's trip edges out that of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, who plans a similar feat July 20 aboard a rocket and capsule designed by his own space company, Blue Origin.
Rare ... star spotted with the help of astronomers on Mauna Kea | KHON2
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Astronomers at the WM Keck Observatory helped make a rare sighting 1,500 light years away.
Two stars in the beginning of what will eventually become a supernova were spotted by an international team of astronomers and astrophysicists led by the University of Warwick.

Plans underway for new space station to orbit the moon | WFLA
A new partnership just announced by NASA makes it official that the space agency is very much in the business of getting back to the moon.
The announcement also gives us fresh details about the new space station, which will orbit the moon and allow landings on the lunar surface.
Teardrop star reveals hidden supernova doom: Rare sighting of binary star system heading towards
Astronomers have made the rare sighting of two stars spiralling to their doom by spotting the tell-tale signs of a teardrop-shaped star.
The tragic shape is caused by a massive nearby white dwarf distorting the star with its intense gravity, which will also be the catalyst for an eventual supernova that will consume both.
