Lakes of liquid water at Mars' southern ice cap may just be mirages | Science News
Maybe hold off on that Martian ice fishing trip. Two new studies splash cold water on the idea that potentially habitable lakes of liquid water exist deep under the Red Planet's southern polar ice cap.
The possibility of a lake roughly 20 kilometers across was first raised in 2018, when the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft probed the planet's southern polar cap with its Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding, or MARSIS, instrument.
Curiosity rover might be sitting near microbe 'burps' on Mars | Engadget
Curiosity has detected the methane spurts six times since landing on Mars in 2012, but scientists haven't had success locating their sources until now. Europe's Trace Gas Orbiter has also failed to spot methane at atmospheric levels.
Sols 3178-3179: What Time Is It… – NASA's Mars Exploration Program
APXS and MAHLI will start the day looking at the drill fines of the "Pontours" drill hole. Check out Lucy’s blog from sols 3171-3172 for more details. As Lucy said, it’s our 32 nd drill hole – and sitting in an exciting and very interesting looking area.
"Settlers" and "Val," Reviewed | The New Yorker
The drama on Mars, in recent months, has been like nothing on Earth. The afternoon of February 18th, especially, was a cliffhanger.
How can a feature film compete with kicks like that?
It was Elton John, no stranger to the astronomical, who pointed out that "Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids"—a wise maxim, of which "Settlers" delivers ample proof.
NASA's Mars Perseverance rover snaps shots of unique rock formation in 'ancient
Mechanical engineering professor Mike Massimino discusses the complex mission to the Red Planet on 'Your World'
NASA's Mars rover Perseverance has sent pictures back to Earth of a unique rock formation within what the space agency called an "ancient lakebed" in its latest reported discovery during it mission on the Red Planet.
SpaceX: The key to getting to Mars could come from an unlikely source
SpaceX wants to build a city on Mars by 2050 — but it might have to tackle the smell problem first.
Astronaut Leland Melvin , who has probably the best NASA portrait ever, is working with laundry detergent firm Tide on perhaps his most bizarre challenge yet: finding a way to keep clothes clean for those multi-month crewed trips to Mars .
China's Zhurong Mars rover visits own parachute - SpaceNews
HELSINKI — China's Zhurong rover has approached and imaged the parachute and backshell which helped the vehicle land safely on Mars.
The 240-kilogram solar-powered Zhurong captured the image of the discarded items on July 12 Beijing time at a distance of 30 meters away.
China's Zhurong Mars rover in good condition, travels over 500 meters - CGTN
China's Zhurong rover has driven for 509 meters on the surface of Mars as of 11:00 p.m. on Saturday (Beijing time), according to the China National Space Administration.
The rover is about to reach the second sand dune, where it is expected to carry out a detailed survey.
Bruno Mars brings the finesse back to Las Vegas - Las Vegas Magazine
It seems incredibly appropriate that Bruno Mars' first appearance in front of the soon-to-be-adoring public was in the beloved 1992 movie Honeymoon in Vegas , which featured Nicolas Cage and a bunch of skydiving Elvis impersonators:
2. Elvis impersonators pay homage to the music of the past, and so does Mars, drawing on musical roots from Michael Jackson and Prince to the Browns (James and Bobby).
