Project launched to look for extraterrestrial visitors to our Solar System | Science | AAAS

The 2017 detection of an odd interstellar object dubbed 'Oumuamua (artist representation above) prompted this week's launch of a project to search for alien technology on or near Earth.

The oddly shaped object that came whizzing past the Sun and Earth in 2017 on a trajectory from outside our Solar System prompted wild speculation. Most scientists think the cigar-shaped visitor, less than 1 kilometer long, was a comet or asteroid from a nearby star or some other cosmic flotsam.

Ancient fossil threads may be the oldest known archaea microbes | Science News

Threadlike filaments pressed in rock may be the remnants of archaea that burped methane near hydrothermal vents 3.42 billion years ago.

Biologists have deduced that metabolisms based on munching or belching methane evolved early on, but don't know exactly when, says Barbara Cavalazzi, a geobiologist at University of Bologna in Italy.

An Oral History of Martin Short's 1994 Movie 'Clifford'

Short was 40 when he starred in Clifford , playing the titular ten-year-old character. The effect is unsettling. Clifford is neither boy nor man. He's a raging storm of desire, chocolate cravings, and Ethel Merman impressions that has assumed human form.

Twenty-seven years after its release, simply because nobody told me not to, I decided to track down the people who made Clifford , as well as some of those fans who discovered it later.

Opinion: Amazon's stock looks tired.

Jeff Bezos has plenty of achievements under his belt, the most recent being his extraterrestrial excursion.

But Amazon.com AMZN, +1.18% shareholders may not be so impressed. Bipartisan talk of antitrust actions against the e-commerce giant could mean that Amazon's dominance could begin to face challenges from Washington. That comes as Bezos handed off the CEO role to Andy Jassy earlier this month.

At his peak, Uchimura, 32, was one of the best male gymnasts of all time, winning every world and Olympic all-around title from 2009 to 2016 and becoming the first man in 44 years to top the individual all-around podium in back-to-back Olympics with a nail-biting final in Rio 2016.
