The robot revolution is always allegedly just around the corner. In the utopian vision, technology emancipates human labor from repetitive, mundane tasks, freeing us to be more productive and take on more fulfilling work.
Such a warning was at the crux of Andrew Yang's ill-fated presidential campaign, helping propel his case for universal basic income that he argued would become necessary when automation left so many workers out.
Tech Tent: What future for humanoid robots? - BBC News
It's the humanoid robot which has been the star of the tech circuit - but now Pepper's owners have paused production. On this week's Tech Tent, we explore whether we are falling out of love with robots that look like us.
It is not surprising that Pepper, with its cute face and pleasant voice, became a star. The robot, created by the French company Aldebaran, which became the robotics division of Japan's SoftBank in 2012, seemed to be everywhere.
Deep sea robots will let us find millions of shipwrecks, says man who discovered Titanic |
"We're going to be finding them like crazy," Ballard told the Observer . "It's going to be rapid discovery because of this technology. New chapters of human history are to be read.
"All the work I've done in the past in archaeology used vehicles that were connected to a ship.

Insect-Sized Robots Navigate Through Mazes With Super Agility
Now, engineers at the University of California, Berkeley, have used the principle behind the specialized sticky footpads that can be seen on spiders to create an insect-scale robot that has the ability to traverse complex terrain and efficiently avoid unexpected obstacles.
The research team added two electrostatic footpads to the robot and proceeded to apply a voltage to them. This voltage increases the electrostatic force between the footpad and a surface, making that footpad stick more firmly and forcing the rest of the robot to rotate around the foot.
An expert on search and rescue robots explains the technologies used in disasters like the
Texas A&M's Robin Murphy has deployed robots at 29 disasters, including three building collapses, two mine disasters and an earthquake as director of the Center for Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue .
We don't have reports about it from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, but news coverage shows that they're using drones.
