Zhurong, part of the China National Space Administration's Tianwen-1 Mars mission, is scoping out a broad plains region. CNSA released a panorama view on Monday that also shows off the rover's solar panels.
China's Tianwen-1 mission consists of an orbiter, a lander and a rover. Zhurong's presence brought the number of active Mars rovers up to three along with NASA's Curiosity and Perseverance, which are off exploring different parts of the planet.

The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum in Bethel has said the specimen weighs 32 pounds. The museum will host the rock, which it has said is the largest intact Mars rock on Earth.
The museum has said the rock was the result of an asteroid impact on the surface of Mars that ejected material into an Earth-crossing orbit in space. It has also said only about 560 pounds of Mars rock is known to exist on Earth.

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- NASA wants four people to test the limits of human isolation by placing them in a simulated Mars habitat for a year, cut off from the world except for delayed communication and possible simulated spacesuit walks.

Spacecraft on Mars have captured images of barren, desertlike landscapes complete with dunes of sand. But the windswept features are not identical to their terrestrial counterparts. The surface of the Red Planet is dotted by midsized sand masses not found on Earth.
"Because we're seeing new things on Mars, people have adapted what they are calling things," said Mackenzie Day , a researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. Day and James Zimbelman of the Smithsonian Institution coauthored the new paper, published in the journal Icarus .

NASA has zeroed in on a rock nicknamed "Rochette." The rover will rough up the rock a bit with an abrading tool to get a better look and help the team decide if this is indeed the rock they want to sample.
After the surprising result with the first sample attempt, the team will use one of the rover's cameras to look into the sample tube and make sure there's rock inside before sealing it.

The planet is not as unfamiliar scientifically as decades ago. Orbitters and rovers are still collecting info about the planet. We often see pics of Martian hills, atmosphere and even storms. But Martian landslide? Well that's something different.
