NASA's Lucy asteroid probe settles into Earth-orbiting cruise as engineers tackle solar array

Days after NASA's new mission to a mysterious group of asteroids launched, spacecraft personnel continue battling an issue with one of the vehicle's two massive solar arrays.

The Lucy spacecraft is designed to fly by eight different asteroids , most of them Trojans that circle the sun in the same orbit as Jupiter but ahead of or behind the massive planet. To complete that task, it will rely on two solar arrays, each more than 24 feet (7 meters) across.

Astronomers discover twin sub-Neptune exoplanets orbiting nearby star

TKS performs precise radial velocity (PRV) follow-up observations of TESS planet candidates using the Keck telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii and the Automated Planet Finder (APF) telescope at Lick Observatory, California.

As part of TKS, a group of astronomers led by Nicholas Scarsdale of the University of California, Santa Cruz, has now confirmed that two sub-Neptune are transiting a nearby bright sun-like star known as HD 63935 (other designations HIP 38374 and TIC 453211454).

China launches orbiting solar observatory – Spaceflight Now

China successfully launched a half-ton scientific research satellite Oct.

The Long March 2D rocket blasted off from the Taiyuan launch base in Shanxi province, located in northern China, at 6:51 a.m. EDT (1051 GMT) on Oct. 14, according to China’s space agency.

The two-stage, liquid-fueled rocket headed south from Taiyuan and placed the 11 satellites into a polar sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of approximately 323 miles (520 kilometers).

Giant planet discovered orbiting dead star may be a glimpse into our solar

Scientists discovered a Jupiter-like planet, which has a similar orbit as the Gas Giant, revolving around a dead star — or white dwarf — near the center of the Milky Way, according to a news release.

Researchers found the system using the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii and wrote about their findings in a new study published in the  journal Nature this week.

Astronomers Discover Jupiter-Sized Planet Still Orbiting Dead Star

Some 6,500 light years away, an intact planet roughly the size of Jupiter has been discovered orbiting a dead star classified as a “white dwarf.

But what about planets further away from the star in question? For example, what would happen to Jupiter and Saturn in such an event?

What are white dwarfs? In his video series Introduction to Astrophysics , Dr. Joshua N. Winn , Professor of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University, explained their existence.

How Many Satellites are Orbiting the Earth Right Now? The Correct Answer is 'Too Many'

Have you ever wondered how many human-made satellites are orbiting our planet right now? Make your wildest guess. 100? 500? Even if you managed to raise your guess up to 1,000, you will be surprised to know that the actual number is 7,941, as per The Conversation, a research news publisher.

In 2021, things are much different. With the latest communication technologies and the competition among communication provider companies, the launch rate has increased by more than 10 times.

Astro Bob: How to see the Chinese space station and a 'secret' U.S.

Many of you have seen the International Space Station (ISS). Biggest and brightest of the satellites, it's hard to miss. Right now, it crosses the morning sky at dawn and won't return for evening observation until mid-November.

Between 2011 and 2019, the Chinese sent up two prototype stations, Tiangong-1 and Tiangong-2, with the goal of perfecting the technology needed to build a long-term space station.
