The Sounds of Mars: Hear the Wind and Crunch of Rover Wheels on the Red Planet - Universe Today
Two microphones aboard the Perseverance Rover have recorded "alien" sounds on Mars – the sounds of a human-made spacecraft crunching its wheels on the Red Planet's surface, or its motors whirring, or blasts from its scientific laser instrument.
"We've been able to see Mars from the rovers' point of view for a quite a long time now," said Greg Delory, a consultant to the Mars 2020 rover microphone team, "so to have another 'sense' on Mars is pretty incredible."

Going to Mars is hard: Lessons from Mariner 9
Fifty years ago this weekend, on November 14, 1971, NASA's robotic Mariner 9 probe went into orbit around Mars. This was not only the first time a spacecraft orbited another planet, but also one of the few early missions to avoid the infamous Curse of Mars.
There are currently 13 uncrewed missions operating on the surface of, or in orbit around, the Red Planet, making it the solar system equivalent of Piccadilly Circus. This is both a remarkable technological achievement and the basis for widespread misconception.
