Solar system slowly rises in Perry skies | ThePerryNews

The steel uprights now visible at several points around Perry mark the progress in construction of the system of solar panels that will soon power all city properties.

The city parking lot at the northwest corner of First and Willis avenues remains closed for installation of solar canopies and panels, and the parking stalls south of the Perry Public Library are similarly off limits.

Unlike Anything in Our Solar System: Rocky Exoplanets Are Even Stranger Than We Thought

Rocky debris, the pieces of a former rocky planet that has broken up, spiral inward toward a white dwarf in this illustration.

A new astrogeology study suggests that most nearby rocky exoplanets are quite unlike anything in our Solar System.

An astronomer from NSF’s NOIRLab has teamed up with a geologist from California State University, Fresno, to make the first estimates of rock types that exist on planets orbiting nearby stars.

One Of The Solar System's Strangest Objects Just Exploded Again | IFLScience

Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann shown here in a false color image revealing the nucleus (yellow) and comas produced by successive eruptions. Image Credit: NASA/JPL/Caltech/Ames Research Center/University of Arizona.

Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann behaves like no other object we know, and even by its own high standards, the last few months have been deeply odd. Although classified as a comet, 29P undergoes eruptions for reasons that are still unknown but are not the same as those seen on other comets.

Scientists confirm barrier between inner and outer regions of the young solar system | NSF -

By analyzing the composition of ancient meteorites, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , funded by the U.S.

Analysis suggests that billions of years ago there was a chasm, or gap, in the solar system, near the asteroid belt. The chasm could have been caused by Jupiter's formation or by cosmic winds generated by the magnetic fields of a growing solar system.

Rocky exoplanets are even stranger than we thought: A new astrogeology study suggests that most

An astronomer from NSF's NOIRLab has teamed up with a geologist from California State University, Fresno, to make the first estimates of rock types that exist on planets orbiting nearby stars.

Astronomers have discovered thousands of planets orbiting stars in our galaxy -- known as exoplanets. However, it's difficult to know what exactly these planets are made of, or whether any resemble Earth.

Astronomers Ask NASA for New Space Telescope to See Earth-Like Planets

NASA is about to launch its new flagship space observatory, the James Webb Space Telescope, which can peer so deep into the cosmos that it may see the afterglow of the Big Bang.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine published its new Decadal Survey on Astronomy and Astrophysics on Thursday. Astronomers look to this report to define each decade in space, since the survey guides NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
