Air Force Research Laboratory Detects Moon Around Asteroid With Smallest Telescope Yet

AFRL's 3.5 meter telescope on Kirtland AFB, N.M. uses its laser to produce a guide star for a reference for adaptive optics, and previously held the record for the smallest telescope to image an asteroid's satellite.

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Starfire Optical Range (SOR)* telescope on Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque, recorded an image Nov. 29, 2021, of an of asteroid (22) Kalliope and its natural satellite Linus.

'Don't Look Up' viewers say the crisis number from the film is actually a phone

Since the Adam McKay-directed film debuted on the streaming service on Dec. 24, some viewers have pointed out on Twitter that a phone number included in a fictional public service announcement in the film actually might be for a phone sex hotline.

In a scene about halfway into the movie, Dr. Randall Mindy (DiCaprio) appears in a PSA to quell fears about the cataclysmic asteroid heading for the planet.

Every time I opened Netflix over the Christmas break, I was hit with the trailer for Don't Look Up.

The satire shows astronomers Randall Mindy (DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Lawrence) discovering a comet that is on a collision course with the earth that's as dangerous as it is short, giving just six months to divert the comet - with the response led by Trump-esque President Orlean (Streep).
