NASA: Asteroid 2.5 times the height of Empire State Building to pass Earth on Jan 18

Does the universe, asteroids, comets, space, earth, moon, Mars excite you? Scientists all over the world are being kept busy trying to unravel the secrets of the universe in a desperate attempt to make sure humanity survives and prospers.

It is massive, around two-and-a-half times the height of the Empire State Building. However, it can be noted that there is nothing to fear from this asteroid labeled as (7482) 1994 PC1 as it most likely going to safely pass the planet.

Could Boris Johnson save Earth from an asteroid? | Comment | The Times

I t's an insane question but also a timely one, so let's bite the bullet and ask it. If a massive asteroid was heading towards planet Earth, and humankind had six months to do something about it, is Boris Johnson the man you'd want in charge?

Granted, you might not think it would matter terribly much.

Defending the Earth from cataclysmic space rocks | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News

Late in the night of November 23, NASA launched a rocket from the coast of California carrying a spacecraft with an unusual purpose — it was designed to be destroyed.

The Double Asteroid Redirection Test, or DART, is traveling to a near-Earth asteroid with the intention of smashing into its small moon and imparting enough momentum to slightly change the rock's orbit.

Earth's five mass extinctions and a sixth could be on the way | Daily Mail Online

Earth's most famous mass extinction event was the giant asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago.

But although it was severe, obliterating some 76 per cent of the world's species, there have been two other more devastating near apocalypses throughout our planet's 4.5 billion-year history and five in total.

The mineralogy of the rocks determines how deadly a meteorite impact is - Tech Explorist

Meteorites have bombarded the earth throughout its long history. Scientists analyzed 44 impacts over the past 600 million years. For this, they used a new method: assessing the mineral content of the dust ejected into the atmosphere upon impact.

They found that meteorites hitting rocks rich in potassium feldspar always correspond with a mass extinction episode, irrespective of size.

Hovering Moon Rover Concept Uses An Electric Field To Float

When thinking of the power of the Ingenuity drone on Mars, which has done more than a dozen flights on the Red Planet to scout ahead of the Perseverance rover, imagine what it would be like to fly a similar machine over the moon.

But without a substantial atmosphere to speak of — the moon is essentially "airless" — such a hovering drone needs a completely different way to stay above ground than on Mars.

But before you start planning your trip into space, Davida is not believed to be the most cost effective asteroid worth mining.
