One of Webb’s key science goals is to study the nearby cosmos: uncovering hidden parts of our Solar System, peering inside dust clouds where stars and planetary systems are forming, and revealing the composition of exoplanets in more detail.
Thanks to its powerful capabilities at infrared wavelengths, Webb will offer a unique view of the outer planets in our own magnificent Solar System. Looking beyond, Webb will study in detail the atmospheres of a wide diversity of exoplanets.
Nasa thinks there may be a HIDDEN 'Planet 9' lurking in Solar System – here's why
A FABLED "Planet Nine" may be lurking in the outer reaches of our Solar System – and Nasa is on a mission to hunt it down.
The distant world is thought to be up to ten times the mass of Earth and orbits just out of reach of our telescopes.
However, it has never been directly observed and remains a topic of controversy among astronomers, many of whom believe that it does not exist.
A Fight Over Rooftop Solar Threatens California's Climate Goals - The New York Times
California has led the nation in setting ambitious climate change goals and policies. But the state's progress is threatened by a nasty fight between rival camps in the energy industry that both consider themselves proponents of renewable energy.
The dispute is about who will get to build the green energy economy — utilities or smaller companies that install solar panels and batteries at homes — and reap billions of dollars in profits from those investments.
NASA shares a look at an explosive solar flare firing out of the sun
The massive shimmering ball of plasma at the heart of our solar system (aka the sun ) let loose a solar flare on Thursday, and NASA's sun-observing Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the moment .
Here's the full image. Even zoomed out, the solar flare is very hard to miss. Just watch the right side of the image; you'll know it when you see it.
Aluminum in Action: Are Rockier Exoplanets More Common than We Think? | astrobites
Title: Observational constraints on the likelihood of 26 Al in planet-forming environments
Recently, scientists have shown that the proportion of a terrestrial planet's volume that is made up of water decreases with increasing abundance of 26 Al in regions of planetary formation.
Solar Sails Like on NASA's NEA Scout Mission Could Be the Key to Future Interstellar Space
Two-and-a-half years ago, a tiny spacecraft soared into the sky aboard a Space X rocket blasting off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Settling into an orbit 426 miles above Earth, the shoebox-sized object—called LightSail 2, designed by the California-based Planetary Society, and crowdfunded by 40,000 private donors chipping in $7 million—unfurled a 20-by-20-foot foil sail as thin as a strand of human hair.
Two Nevada Primergy Solar+Storage Projects Receive Approval for Sale to NV Energy - Solar Industry
"We are pleased that the PUCN has approved these milestone renewable energy projects that will help advance Nevada's net zero carbon goals," says Ty Daul, CEO at Primergy.
The Iron Point Solar Project is a 250 MW AC solar system paired with 200 MW of battery storage and is expected to be commissioned in December 2023. The Hot Pot Solar Project is 350 MW AC solar system paired with 280 MW of battery storage and is expected to be in service by December 2024.
2022 solar and battery industry predictions
My 2022 predictions came into clearer focus after the California Public Utilities Commission dropped a bomb on California's solar and battery storage industry. NEM 3 cannot be considered net metering since new solar customers will actually be penalized for connecting under this rate.
These IOUs — as they are politely referred to by California residents — will book record profits in 2022 as they raise rates, shift customer charges to stockholder profits, increase executive bonuses, and commit billions more in ratepayer funds to fix the transmission and distribution
