How Dark Matter Could Be Measured in the Solar System - Universe Today

Dark matter has long been a mystery to astronomers, in no small part because it is so hard to measure directly. Its influence is plain when looking at its gravitational effects on objects such as far away galaxies, but measuring that influence directly has proved much trickier.

Gravity is a very predictable force – its strength diminishes with distance. While standing on the Earth, its influence is the strongest source of gravity. Similarly, if an object is floating around the solar system, the sun is likely its strongest source of gravity.

Astronomers Spot The Youngest Pair of Asteroids Ever Discovered in The Solar System

This makes them the youngest pair of asteroids ever discovered in the Solar System, by a factor of 10. The discovery could tell us more about how asteroids crumble, while raising some intriguing new questions.

"It's very exciting to find such a young asteroid pair that was formed only about 300 years ago, which was like this morning – not even yesterday – in astronomical timescales," says astronomer Petr Fatka of the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Czechia.

NASA Selects Developer for Rocket to Retrieve First Samples From Mars

Extending the solar tariffs will undermine President Biden's climate goals - Niskanen Center

Last Friday, the Biden Administration announced that it would extend the Trump Administration's solar tariffs for four years but with modifications of a reduced scope. Extending the solar tariffs will do more harm than good to the U.S.

The Trump Administration placed tariffs on all imported solar cells and modules that started at 30 percent in February 2018 and declined to 15 percent in 2022. Countries that are deemed to be eligible for Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) were exempted from the tariffs.
