Hub-and-spoke satellites will study space turbulence - Granite Geek

Hub-and-spoke satellites will study space turbulence - Granite Geek

We've all gotten familiar with the idea of a hub-and-spoke system for everything from airline flights (you have to visit Newark before you can visit L.A.) to home computer networks (except for the printer, which can never seen to get connected).

Yet hub-and-spoke is the reason that NASA has chosen UNH to lead a new solar-wind-studying project with the cool name of Helioswarm.

A Novel Approach to Growing Gardens in Space | Science Mission Directorate

To investigate techniques that can be scaled for crop production in microgravity, a NASA-sponsored Sierra Space team is developing soilless nutrient delivery and recovery technologies that will be demonstrated via plant tests aboard the International Space Station.

Current space-based plant systems are small and use particulate-media-based water and nutrient delivery systems. These systems do not scale well in a space environment due to mass, containment, maintenance, and sanitation issues.

Chinese rocket, not Falcon 9, linked to upper stage on lunar impact trajectory - SpaceNews

Astronomer Bill Gray reported Jan. 21 that an object designated WE0913A was on a trajectory that would collide with the moon March 4.

The upcoming collision attracted worldwide attention and, in some cases, criticism of SpaceX for "littering" the moon. The object is expected to crash near the crater Hertzsprung on the lunar farside, far from any other spacecraft landing sites, and create a crater about 20 meters across.
