Outer space - the evolution of planets is surprisingly similar

A research team including Alvaro Hacar of the Institute of Astrophysics at the University of Vienna used ALMA to study the mass distribution of more than 870 planet-forming disks in the Orion A cloud and found surprising similarities: the dust mass of only planet-forming disks decreases with age, ...

VIDEO: New Jumping Device Could Help Humans Spring Across Other Planets

The jumper is capable of achieving the tallest height in earth gravity — roughly 100 feet (30 metres) — of any jumper to date, engineered or biological.

It has been developed by UC Santa Barbara engineering professor Elliot Hawkes and collaborators, who say it represents a fresh approach to the design of jumping devices and advances the understanding of jumping as a form of locomotion.

'Kissing' Planets, a Super Flower Moon, and Meteor Showers Are Coming — Here's When to See Them | ...

April showers bring...May celestial events. At least that's the case this month when there are several occasions worth packing up the car with lounge chairs, a telescope or binoculars , and a few snacks and heading out in search of dark skies.

The key to observing any astronomical event is to head away from city lights as far as possible — ideally to a Dark Sky Place , if you can. Once there, give your eyes 20 to 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness before you look up.

Relative Habitability Of Exoplanet Systems With Two Giant Planets - Astrobiology

Our probabilistic model for habitability of an eccentric Earth analog orbiting a Sun-like star. The upper black region is disallowed due to collision with the star; present-day Venus (yellow square), Earth (green diamond), and Mars (red X) are shown for reference.

The architecture of a planetary system can influence the habitability of a planet via orbital effects, particularly in the areas of stability and eccentricity.

Sunday morning to bring rare sight of planets and meteor shower

Cast your naked eyes towards the eastern horizon early Sunday morning and this sight may be your reward.

Every year, come May, as the earth passes through the trail of dust and ice left by Haley's Comet, the Eta Aquariid meteor shower lights up the sky.

Constraints On The History of the Stellar Radiation Environment Of Planets Orbiting Low-mass Stars ...

The semi-amplitude of variability as a function of rotation period. The teal circles show rotation periods determined using MEarth data presented in Newton et al. (2016), M20, and this work. The purple circles show the rotation periods measured in this work and M20 using TESS data.

We present a study of the relationship between galactic kinematics, flare rates, chromospheric magnetic activity, and rotation periods for a volume-complete, nearly all-sky sample of 219 single stars within 15 parsecs and with masses between 0.1−0.3 M⊙ observed during the primary mission of TESS.

A new telescope might make it possible to see exo-planets | by Vineeth Venugopal | May, 2022 | ...

Exo-planets are very very far away. It's hard even to see the features on distant stars, so being able to image the surface of distant planets is even more of a stretch.

How the mightiest planets can be moved while the smallest are protected

The study of planetary orbits doesn’t have the same glamour as other aspects of planetary sciences. It provides no pretty pictures of Jovian clouds or Martian sunsets.

The Younger the Planet, the More Likely it is to be Habitable - Universe Today

But to sort the potentially habitable worlds from all the others, we need a way to filter through all of the exoplanets we keep discovering. We know that rocky worlds like Earth are the best places to look for habitable conditions, but according to a new study, age matters.

We’re still in our early years of understanding exoplanets. Our primary way of understanding habitability, or at least potential habitability, is what’s known as the “Goldilocks Zone.
