After software delays, NASA says Psyche asteroid mission won’t launch this year – ...

NASA’s billion-dollar Psyche asteroid mission will not launch this year, officials confirmed Friday, after delays in completing software verification testing for the spacecraft’s guidance, navigation and control system.

Mission officials said the next opportunity to launch the mission to explore Psyche, a metal-rich asteroid, is in July 2023. An independent review panel will evaluate the next steps for the project before NASA leadership decides when, or if, the Psyche mission should continue toward launch.

This week, the US House of Representatives will release a detailed blueprint of its budget for Commerce, Justice, Science, and related agencies, including information about NASA's budget.

In advance of its release, Ars obtained a copy of the 208-page budget blueprint, which represents the opening salvo in the process of funding the federal government. The Senate must still release its budget blueprint later this summer, and then the House and Senate must reconcile their budgets.

Asteroid hunters find a telescope testing center near Tucson - AZPM

The Winer Mobile Observatory is headquartered south of the city. Staffers there are working with Trans Astra Corporation to test its Sutter Telescope System, designed to detect and track small, fast moving objects as they pass by Earth.

"There are thousands of asteroids that are really easy to get to in space but we just can't see them with today's telescopes, and we think the mineral wealth in these asteroids is in the trillions," he explained.

NASA's Psyche mission to an unexplored metal world comes to a halt - Egypt Independent

(CNN) – NASA’s first spacecraft designed to study a metallic asteroid won’t be launching this year as planned, according to an announcement made by the agency on Friday.

The Psyche mission’s 2022 launch window, which opened on August 1 and closes on October 11, will come to an end before the spacecraft’s flight software is ready.
