An asteroid that may be the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza is due to fly by our planet at a close distance over the weekend.
The asteroid, which NASA has labeled 2022 GU6, is expected to come within 750,000 miles of Earth on Sunday at around 8:01 a.m. Eastern time.
Scientists release first analysis of rocks plucked from speeding asteroid
"We previously only had a handful of these rocks to study, and all of them were meteorites that fell to Earth and were stored in museums for decades to centuries, which changed their compositions," said geochemist Nicolas Dauphas, one of the three University of Chicago researchers who worked with ...

NASA: James Webb Space Telescope hit by asteroid! Will it survive? | Tech News
The James Webb Space Telescope was launched into space by NASA on December 25, 2021 and it slowly moved towards its target location of Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point in January. But less than six months into its space exploration mission, it has come across some serious trouble.
NASA reported in its blog post that the space observatory has endured micrometeoroid impacts.
Hayabusa2's Ancient Asteroid Samples Are the Most Pristine Ever Seen. Why That's a Big Deal - CNET
Japan's space agency has performed an initial analysis of samples from the 4.6-billion-year-old asteroid Ryugu.
The samples are some of the most primitive materials ever recovered from space and will help us understand the earliest epoch of our solar system.
Scientists Use Technology Tool to Discover New Asteroids
Scientists have used a new tool to discover more than 100 asteroids that had not been identified before.
The method uses a complex computing method called an algorithm to search for asteroids that were not discoverable in the past. They were not discoverable because existing telescopes and image examination tools could not recognize them.
What it's like to lead a NASA deep space mission.
Ah, no. There are no $800 million space mission do-overs in my world. At the moment of an explosion, we are finished.
Soon, if luck, sweat, and the fates align, our rocket will launch our spacecraft off the Earth and begin its 3.4-year journey to the asteroid (16) Psyche.
NASA's asteroid-bound Lucy spacecraft completes first trajectory correction maneuver | ...
On June 7, NASA's asteroid hunter, Lucy, completed the first in a series of trajectory correction maneuvers the spacecraft will take in preparation for the mission's first Earth gravity assist scheduled for October 16, 2022.
During the course of its mission, Lucy will observe one main belt asteroid and seven Trojan asteroids that share an orbit around the Sun with Jupiter, making it NASA's first single spacecraft mission in history to explore so many different asteroids.
