One-fifth of an ounce of dark specks brought to Earth from an asteroid by a Japanese spacecraft are some of the most pristine bits of a baby solar system ever studied, scientists announced on Thursday.
That fact should help planetary scientists refine their knowledge of the ingredients in the disk of dust and gas that circled the sun about 4.6 billion years ago before coalescing into the planets and smaller bodies.

Lyco's planetarium takes third graders on a trip around the solar system | News, Sports, Jobs - ...
Lycoming College’s Detwiler Planetarium recently welcomed third grade students from Donald E. Schick Elementary School for their end-of-the-year educational field trip.
“Having the opportunity to educate younger members in the greater Williamsport community is a rewarding experience,” said Balliet. “Many times, it is their first visit to a planetarium, and they fill the dome with bursts of joyful exuberance during the show.”
Scale model of solar system installed in Belfast hills | indy100
A sprawling scale model of the solar system has been installed along a 10-kilometre sculpture trail in the hills above Belfast.
The Our Place In Space installation will be on the National Trust's Divis and Black Mountain site for the next four weeks.
The 3D sculptures representing the Sun and planets were designed by illustrator and author Oliver Jeffers in conjunction with astrophysicist Professor Stephen Smartt.

RARE view of solar storm is stunning! It's so massive, makes Earth look tiny | Tech News
An amateur astrophotographer Chuck Ayoub has accidentally recorded an unusual solar storm while capturing the Sun. The post shared on Instagram shows the clouds of solar plasma locked in a place, unable to move due to the Sun's magnetic field for almost an hour.
The Instagram Reel also displayed the size of planet Earth measured up against the solar storm. It appears like a tiny speck for the massive star. Chuck recorded the clip by using Explore Scientific AR102 telescope and ZWO ASI174MM
Comet chaser approved to intercept visitors from outside the Solar System
But both of those comets are "short-period" comets, that is, comets with relatively short orbits that have passed through the inner Solar System multiple times.
The Comet Interceptor mission, by contrast, aims to visit a pristine comet on a long orbit. Perhaps a comet from the Oort cloud — a sphere of icy small objects between a quarter to three light-years from the Sun— recently perturbed and falling toward the Sun for the first time.
ESA unveils new mission 'Comet Interceptor' to scrutinise inner solar system's space rocks
The European Space Agency (ESA), on June 8, unveiled its new mission named 'Comet Interceptor,' which would scrutinise a comet that once lingered in inner solar system or is new to it. This mission was proposed in July 2018 and has now been adopted after the completion of its study phase.
The Comet Interceptor spacecraft will be launched in 2029 in a ride-share mission with ESA's Ariel (Atmospheric Remote-sensing Infrared Exoplanet Large-survey) probe.
Queen guitarist Brian May explains how we discovered exoplanets in new book, Bang!! | Astronomy.com
While astronomers have been explaining the origin and composition of our Sun’s family of planets for hundreds of years, this story has only come together in the last 30 years or so.
In 1995, astronomers studying the nearby star 51 Pegasi found that it appeared to be wobbling back and forth, movement that revealed itself through a regular pattern of Doppler shifts in its spectrum.
