Start at the center, with the sun. Our middle-aged star may be more placid than most, but it is otherwise unremarkable. Its planets, however, are another story.
First, Mercury: More charred innards than fully fledged planet, it probably lost its outer layers in a traumatic collision long ago. Next come Venus and Earth, twins in some respects, though oddly only one is fertile.
China's Mars spacecraft has photographed the entire red planet, state media says
China's Mars-orbiting spacecraft has beamed back stunning images of the red planet's most distinctive features, and they're just a sample of its new photo library.
The Tianwen-1 orbiter spacecraft has imaged the entire planet of Mars, the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation said on Weibo on Wednesday. China released a handful of the orbiter's images from across the Martian surface with the announcement.
China's Tainwen-1 probe maps Mars after orbiting over 1,300 times; see pictures here
The China National Space Administration (CNSA), on Wednesday, announced that its Tianwen-1 mission orbiter has mapped the entire Mars and has beamed back stunning images in the process.
While orbiting Mars since last February, the orbiter has photographed its north pole along with a number of canyons, craters and volcanos scattered across the red planet.
Astronomers discover closest rocky 'super Earth' planets yet, per Nasa
The planets are "super Earths," rocky planets like our own, but somewhat larger, with HD 260655 b coming in at 1.2 times the size of Earth and HD 260655 c at 1.5 times the size of our planet.
NASA's CAPSTONE mission, which will chart a new orbit around the moon which will hopefully be used for a future crewed lunar space station, is underway after a successful launch on Tuesday morning.
Chinese spacecraft acquires images of entire planet of Mars
BEIJING (Reuters) - An uncrewed Chinese spacecraft has acquired imagery data covering all of Mars, including visuals of its south pole, after circling the planet more than 1,300 times since early last year, state media reported on Wednesday.
China's Tianwen-1 successfully reached the Red Planet in February 2021 on the country's inaugural mission there. A robotic rover has since been deployed on the surface as an orbiter surveyed the planet from space.
