The European Gaia space mission has produced an unprecedented amount of new, improved, and detailed data for almost two billion objects in the Milky Way galaxy and the surrounding cosmos.
The Gaia space mission of the European Space Agency ESA is constructing an ultraprecise three-dimensional map of our Milky Way galaxy, observing almost two billion stars or roughly one percent of all the stars in our galaxy.
Solar system sculpture trail to open in Cambridge
A 10 km-long sculpture trail of the solar system will run from the heart of Cambridge to Waterbeach this summer, titled Our Place in Space.
Stretching from Midsummer Common in the centre of Cambridge and running along the riverside to the Woodland Trust's Cow Hollow Wood in nearby Waterbeach, the epic scale model reflects the size of each planet at scale and the distance between them, starting with the Sun.
An armoured asteroid?
It has been almost six years since the NASA OSIRIS-REx spacecraft first took its flight towards a very special target. Unlike most NASA missions, it was not going for a planet or a moon but a 450-metres wide asteroid known as 101955 Bennu.
The OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer) spacecraft was launched on September 8, 2016. In September 2017, flew past the Earth and in 2018, it finally reached Bennu.
25 weird and wild solar system facts
Our solar system consists of the sun and everything that orbits that sun, like the eight (once nine) planets we all know from school. But the main planets, as diverse and fascinating as they are, are just the beginning.
Scientists have discovered ice-spewing volcanoes on Pluto, while Mars is home to a truly "grand" canyon the size of the United States. There may even be a giant, undiscovered planet lurking somewhere beyond Neptune. Read on for some of the strangest facts about the solar system.
This is What the Metal Asteroid Psyche Might Look Like - Universe Today
If you wanted to do a forensic study of the Solar System, you might head for the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. That’s where you can find ancient rocks from the Solar System’s early days.
The asteroid Psyche is especially interesting, and NASA is sending a mission to investigate the unusual chunk of rock. In advance of that mission, a team of researchers combined observations of Psyche from an array of telescopes and constructed a map of the asteroid’s surface.
Surge in homes powered by the sun, but do your homework so you don't get burned | Northwest ...
Solar power installations on home rooftops are surging in Oregon and Washington state. Alongside, you may have noticed an uptick in ads pitching rooftop solar, or even gotten an in-person solicitation. Some of the sales pitches contain dubious or potentially misleading claims.
In hindsight, Pasco, Washington, retiree Bob Layman wishes he and his wife had done more research about the solar installer they selected to put panels on their roof. Part of their system was improperly wired.
Opinion: Everyone Deserves the Benefits of Solar Technology - Including Renters - Times of San Diego
California is both the nation's leading renewable-energy proponent and one of the few states to actually set ambitious green energy goals to fight climate change.
Utility-scale and rooftop solar must continue to play an essential role in California's renewable energy leadership. But a sizable portion of Californians are still unable to access the benefits of the technology.
LunGradCon 2022 To Provide Additional Opportunities for Students | Solar System Exploration ...
LunGradCon 2022 will be held in conjunction with this year's NASA Exploration Science Forum (NESF 2022) .
LunGradCon 2022 will take place with a hybrid format this year with a fully virtual day on July 11th including icebreakers, talks, and more.
The organizers want this to be a positive experience for all attendees and have some great plans to network and learn both in-person and in cyberspace!
Guts and stardust - The Source - Washington University in St. Louis
Much of what scientists now know about the composition of the early solar system is thanks to Kevin McKeegan, PhD '87, who, over nearly four decades of research, has analyzed everything that he could get his hands on, from microscopic cometary dust, to asteroids, lunar rocks, and even samples of ...
Residential solar offers price certainty in chaotic electricity markets – pv magazine USA
Experts say Texas' electric rates have nearly doubled in a year, as peak demand challenges natural gas supply. Residential solar is an alternative that offers clarity in the future of electric bills.
In Texas, electricity is deregulated, which means distribution-level energy supply companies can compete in the open market to offer residential and commercial contracts.
