Super-Earth exoplanet orbiting nearby star discovered

Now, astronomers led by Hiroki Harakawa of the Subaru Telescope have discovered a new planet of the super-Earth class.

"We showed that the M4.5 dwarf Ross 508 has a significant RV periodicity at 10.75 days with possible aliases at 1.099 and 0.913 days.

The newly found exoplanet Ross 508 b has a minimum mass of four Earth masses and orbits its host every 10.75 days at a distance of about 0.053 AU from it.

China proposes alien planet mission to hunt habitable worlds by scanning wobbling stars

A proposed Chinese mission would look for nearby potentially habitable alien worlds by launching a spacecraft to make ultraprecise measurements of how orbiting planets make a star wobble.

For this mission, called the Closeby Habitable Exoplanet Survey (CHES), the scientists would use a method called micro-arcsecond relative astrometry.

Mathematicians Transcend a Geometric Theory of Motion | WIRED

Arnold's work was in an area of mathematics that concerns all the different configurations a physical system like bouncing billiard balls or orbiting planets can take.

Arnold predicted that every phase space of a certain type contains a minimum number of configurations in which the system it describes returns to where it started. This would be like billiard balls coming to occupy the same positions and velocities they held earlier.
