NASA's Mars InSight lander will squeeze out a little more science | Space

The solar-powered InSight lander is only working at about one-tenth of its landing capacity of 5,000 watt-hours and had expected to shut off its seismometer — its last operational science instrument running on dwindling power supplies — in June.

"InSight hasn't finished teaching us about Mars yet," Lori Glaze, director of NASA's Planetary Science Division, said in the statement. "We're going to get every last bit of science we can before the lander concludes operations."

The Impact of COVID-19 on Science Education - Public Policy Institute of California

The California Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS)—adopted in 2013—have the potential to improve scientific literacy and strengthen the global competitiveness of California's workforce.

California is one of 44 states—serving 71 percent of US students—with education standards that were influenced by the Framework for K–12 Science Education and/or the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) (National Science Teaching Association 2021).

Why Pluto's Moon Charon Wears A Red Cap | IFLScience

New Horizons never got as close to Charon as it did to Pluto, so we didn't learn as much about it. One feature stood out from other ice worlds we have seen orbiting actual planets, however: a red "cap" near the north pole nicknamed Mordor Macula .

Almost immediately, astronomers suspected the cap was made up of tholins, sticky hydrocarbon residues formed by the breakdown of methane on exposure to ultraviolet light.

Curiosity's Mastcam Views Layers at Las Claritas

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover captured evidence of rock layers that built up as windblown sand accumulated in some areas and was scoured away in others in the ancient past.

Curiosity was built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, which leads the mission on behalf of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. Malin Space Science Systems in San Diego built and operates Mastcam.

Summer solstice 2022 celebrated on Earth and in space (photos) | Space

People around the world celebrated the summer solstice today (June 21), as did some satellites in space.

The June solstice (or summer solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere sees the sun reach its highest and northernmost point in the sky, providing maximum daylight hours. The Southern Hemisphere gets the opposite effect as winter begins.
