SpaceX planning another trifecta of launches this weekend – Spaceflight Now

SpaceX teams in Florida and California are preparing for three missions from three launch pads in three days, beginning Friday with a launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with a reusable Falcon 9 booster flying for a record 13th time.

Assuming weather and technical issues don’t delay any of the missions, the rapid-fire launch schedule would mark the fastest sequence of flights by SpaceX since the company’s founding.

A Shared Frontier? Collaboration and Competition in the Space Domain

In the realm of space, the race to the most advanced technology is a fierce one.

At the same time, a growing number of researchers in physics, engineering, and related fields are collaborating with international colleagues.

NASA unveils heat shield that could help with landings on Earth and Mars

In an almost entirely windowless metal building on the campus of NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton sits the black, dome-shaped culmination of a $93 million project.

It's a heat shield, about 20 feet in diameter, that one day could help to land cargo and crew missions on Mars or anywhere else that has an atmosphere. Its purpose is to slow a space vehicle for re-entry.

Former AFRL Official Kelly Hammett Takes Over as Space RCO Director

Hammett worked on directed energy programs, including the development of high-power microwave and electro-optic systems, during his more than 20-year career at AFRL, the laboratory said Monday.

As director of the directed energy directorate, Hammett was responsible for managing more than 1,200 military and civilian personnel and on-site contractors and an annual budget of $355 million.
