NASA satellites aid fight against ozone pollution along Great Lakes

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin's Space Science and Engineering Center have teamed with NASA to incorporate satellite data into pollution modeling.

The satellite data brings additional, helpful information to those working on air quality problems, said Brad Pierce, director of the university's Space Science and Engineering Center.

Côte d'Ivoire Organises Workshop Towards Establishing National Space Agency

The Ivorian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has organised a workshop for appropriating draft texts toward establishing an Ivorian Space Agency (ASI). The workshop held on July 28 and 29, 2022, in the council room of the Félix Houphouët Boigny University of Cocody.

Also in attendance was Dr Tidianne Ouattara, Space Science Expert at the African Union Commission. He delivered a framing presentation identifying the challenges of establishing a national space agency. According to him, “the African landscape is a cross-market of satellites”.

House panel pushes lab study agenda

A House panel on technology is pushing for the setting up of a laboratory to promote space science, so the kingdom can one day reap its economic benefits.

The Parliament's Committee on Communications, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy and Society has instructed a sub-panel to work with the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda) and education institutes to set up the laboratory.

ESA outlines how Venus mission will get to hellish planet | Space

Europe's planned Venus exploration mission will depend on a challenging aerobraking procedure to lower its orbit, which will test the thermal resiliency of the spacecraft's materials to their limits. 

The EnVision mission , expected to launch in the early 2030s, will study the geology and atmosphere of Venus , the hellish planet that once may have looked quite like Earth but turned into a scorched hostile world due to a runaway greenhouse effect .

Space station has 'peculiar odor,' European astronaut says | Space

There's a persistent "peculiar odor" on board the International Space Station (ISS) that takes a few days to get used to, according to European astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti.

"When I got here a couple of months ago for my second flight, I could immediately smell a very peculiar odor that brought me back instantly to the memories and sensations of my first flight's odors," Cristoforetti shared on TikTok (opens in new tab) Monday (July 25).

Meteor brightens up the sky above Sydney as peak meteor showers arrive | Space
