A model that allows robots to follow and guide humans in crowded environments

Assistance robots are typically mobile robots designed to assist humans in malls, airports, health care facilities, home environments and various other settings.

Researchers at the Berlin Institute of Technology have recently introduced a new model based on deep reinforcement learning that could allow mobile robots to guide a specific user to a desired location or follow him/her around while carrying their belongings, all within a crowded environment.

LEFT TO MY OWN DEVICES: Robots reflect their makers, sorry to report  | Columns | ...

For decades, science fiction, film, and other artistic outlets have wowed audiences with futuristic concepts surrounding robots. Nowadays we're surrounded by robots. Their definition has widened beyond metallic, monotone task-masters.

The second OED entry for "robot" is more nuanced , and more currently acceptable: "A machine capable of automatically carrying out a complex series of movements, esp. one which is programmable." This includes things like robotic vacuums and lawnmowers. Smartphones are robots in this view.

A Starbucks barista just proved we trust robots more than people | ZDNet

It's a female voice, attempting to be as erotically alluring as possible. It's a robot female voice, of course, and it always makes me wonder why this parking lot believes it should offer an erotic experience.

But we still like, respect, and trust other humans, right? Even if, at times, it seems we have ill-disguised contempt for most of them.

How Realistic Are Robots In Movies Like Terminator And Ex Machina?

Both C-3PO from " Star Wars " and Ava from " Ex Machina " are examples of humanoid robots, meaning they were designed to resemble, move, and act like humans in some capacity.

Although we may not always realize it, the work that goes into being human is far more complex than can be easily or quickly replicated. The reality is that each of our functions have to be broken down and recreated separately rather than thrown together all at once into a single machine.

Bet on Battling Robots in Atlantic Robot League Game

WizKids has announced a brand new tabletop game where players bet on the results of massive mech battles. Earlier this week, WizKids announced Atlantic Robot League, a unique game that involves betting on the results of mech battles that span over multiple city blocks.

Once the bets are in, players then try to manipulate the course of the battle, moving robots around the battlefield and picking when robots attack. The key to the game is not only making sure that your bets are successful, but also to prevent your opponents from winning too much.

Robots Are Racist and Sexist: A.I. Isn't Ready for Recruiting | Inc.com

The big problem with recruiting and hiring is that it's done by humans, and humans make mistakes and are subject to biases . So, the best solution is to create programs that evaluate candidates and choose the best person. Problem solved!

Researchers used a neural network called CLIP to control a robot's arm . The arm then divided blocks with people's pictures into different categories. Easy enough, right?

Where robots fit into the online grocery store ops equation – RetailWire

Supermarket retailers are faced with a huge labor challenge. The explosion of ecommerce is amplifying this by creating the need for more order pickers, whether store employees or third-party providers, to manually fulfill e-grocery orders from stores.

Grocers are taking several approaches to address the issue. The initial goal is to improve manual order picking speed and accuracy. What worked when ecommerce order volumes were low no longer handles the larger volume of ecommerce orders being fulfilled today.
