Aliens, extra-terrestrials, or 'little green men'—the idea has various labels, all of which have saturated popular culture for decades and carry with them a whiff, or a heavy dollop, of pseudoscience.
That didn't stop the U.S. government from stirring feverish excitement by holding its first Congressional hearing on UFOs—now officially referred to as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP)—in decades back in May.
All This UFO Alien Talk Comes From One Tiny Self-Interested Group
Based on headlines these last couple years, we're experiencing some kind of revolution in our quest for contact with aliens. But we aren't.
First: The Department of Defense, in an unprecedented move, spoke publicly about UFOs. That's nice of them. But UFOs are literally unidentified flying objects, nothing more. "The Pentagon acknowledges the existence of UFOs" does not mean "The Pentagon unveils their secret info on aliens.
