Images of deep space: technology used has Wisconsin ties

WILLIAMS BAY, Wis. — The technology used to produce the new fascinating images taken by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has ties to Wisconsin.

Research astronomer and deputy director of Yerkes Observatory, Dr. Amanda Bauer, said in the early 1900s, Yerkes pioneered the way we were able to take the first astronomical image.

China launches data-relay satellite to support Tiangong space station | Space

China has sent a new data relay satellite on its way to geostationary orbit to support the nation’s crewed space station project.

Northrop Grumman Receives Contract for Rapid Deployment of Small Satellites - Via Satellite -

Northrop Grumman has won a sole source, $22 million cost-plus-fixed-fee undefinitized contract through February 2026 from U.S.

The contract award said that ROOSTER is to be "a multi-manifest rideshare satellite supporting operational and prototype missions in a geostationary orbit and maturing technology needed to conduct on-orbit refueling for future missions."

WASHINGTON, July 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- U.S. Naval Research Laboratory scientists launched the second Strontium Iodide Radiation Instrument (SIRI-2) instrument in December 2021 onboard Space Test Program (STP) Sat-6 .

The first SIRI mission was launched Dec. 3, 2018 onboard STP Sat-5 with a one-year mission to investigate the detector's response to on-orbit background radiation in low Earth orbit (LEO).
