HELSINKI — Chinese launch services provider CAS Space successfully placed six small satellites in orbit early Wednesday with the first launch of the Lijian-1 solid rocket.
The four-stage Lijian-1 (ZK-1A) rocket lifted off from an erector-launcher at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 12:12 a.m. Eastern. Launch success was confirmed by China's official space publication within an hour of liftoff.

Senate passes Chips and Science Act, an 'historic' investment in U.S.
The U.S. Senate on Wednesday approved the Chips and Science Act, a bill authorizing nearly $250 billion of spending to bolster innovation and tech hubs in America, including support for basic research and strengthening the manufacturing of semiconductor chips.
The legislation, which runs more than 1,000 pages, passed with a vote of 64-33. It is expected to be approved by the House by the end of the week, just ahead of the August recess.
