Nursing home robots dance, sing and watch for signs of trouble - InForum | Fargo, Moorhead and ...

ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- The robotic age has reached the nursing home stage. A professor from the University of Minnesota Duluth is rolling out a fleet of robots to nursing homes to provide entertainment and well-being checks.

Arshia Khan programmed a robot known as Pepper, a 4-foot white and silver robot that can tell several hundred jokes — some of them better than others — as well as stories, games and dances. It also has a more personalized function. Families can upload photos that the robot shows on its screen.

New Method Enables Humans to Help Robots "See" Their Environments - Unite.AI

A team of engineers at Rice University has developed a new method that enables humans to help robots "see" their environments and complete various tasks.

The new strategy is called Bayesian Learning IN the Dark (BLIND), which is a novel solution to the problem of motion planning for robots operating in environments where there are sometimes blind spots.

What robots can learn from therapists

Human-robot interaction (HRI) research is a wide field, and generally explores how humans can interact with robots, from powerful manufacturing machines to the PARO, safely, effectively and in ways that works for us.

There aren't many therapy robots being used, but they are designed to facilitate interactions with people, often patients or vulnerable people, and as a tool for socializing.

Human-like robots may be perceived as having mental states

When robots appear to engage with people and display human-like emotions, people may perceive them as capable of "thinking," or acting on their own beliefs and desires rather than their programs, according to research published by the American Psychological Association.

Across three experiments involving 119 participants, researchers examined how individuals would perceive a human-like robot, the iCub, after socializing with it and watching videos together.

Halodi's Humanoid Robots are Already Amongst Us! – EEJournal

I've spent the past couple of hours contemplating how wonderful I am.

When you stop to think about it, our human bodies are awesome. As a starting point, they are incredibly energy efficient. For example, although I don't wish to boast, I can walk approximately 4.6 miles powered by a single sausage biscuit from McDonalds.

Robots needed to improve efficiencies | Crops | agupdate.com

Some agricultural robots such as robotic-milking systems are being commercialized due to their relatively simple technologies and short payback time, according to IDTechEx.

The war in Ukraine is putting pressure on farmers globally to produce more crops to compensate for supply gaps left by both Russia and Ukraine. They must do so as prices of wheat, fuel and fertilizer have increased.

Bees' 'waggle dance' may revolutionize how robots talk to each other in disaster zones - ...

Where are those flowers and how far away are they? This is the crux of the ‘waggle dance’ performed by honeybees to alert others to the location of nectar-rich flowers.

If you have ever found yourself in a noisy environment, such as a factory floor, you may have noticed that humans are adept at communicating using gestures. Well, we aren't the only ones. In fact, honeybees take non-verbal communication to a whole new level.
